Before adopting daughter Laila, Bullock was already raising her son Louis. But the actress previously admitted the idea of having a daughter initially frightened her because of the complicated but loving relationship she had with her own mother.
“My mother always said, ‘You just wait till you have a daughter,’ ” Bullock once recalled. “And the thought that a daughter of mine would be anything like I was scared me senseless.”

The Oscar winner also shared one final lesson from her mother that stayed with her forever. “Before my mom passed away, we had a moment at her bedside where I was shut down and trying not to cry, and she simply said, ‘Don’t be like me,’ ” Bullock said.
“In that moment a lot of our lifetime together had been explained. She didn’t want me to go through life shut down, afraid of feeling.”
Now, years later, Bullock appears to be embracing those lessons fully — celebrating motherhood, family, and the emotional journey that shaped her life.
