After laying the Duke to rest on Saturday, the family saluted him one last time in a post that left royal fans expressing their gratitude for his great service. The Royal family wrote on Instagram:

The family shared an image of the prince, who died at the age of 99, with his back turned against the camera, walking away while tipping his black hat on a rainy day.

The upload garnered over 1 million likes as the Royal family's fans took to the comments section to praise Prince Philip for his commendable sacrifice to serve the Queen and the country.

“Thank you, sir, … you will forever live in the hearts and memories of the people you spent your amazing life serving,” commented one user. Another added, “Thank you for your wonderful service for our country and commonwealth…. May your soul rest in eternal peace.”

A third expressed how much she cried on the day of the funeral, grieving for the Duke. A fourth user praised the family for sharing the post with them.

The Cambridges' Kensington Royal account and the Prince of Wales and his wife, Duchess of Cornwall's Clarence House, also reposted the photo on their Instagram Story.

The family bid farewell to the prince in an intimate and private ceremony on Saturday. The televised service saw Prince Charles reunited with both his sons.

Ahead of the funeral, Her Majesty shared a candid image of her and Prince Philip. The photograph was captured by the couple’s daughter-in-law, Sophie, the Countess of Wessex.

The pair flashed smiles as they relaxed in the Scottish Highlands - a summer retreat for the family. The Royal family shared a message of gratitude for the support they received from people around the world.

Prince William and his wife posted another throwback snap of the royal patriarchs with their grandchildren on April 14. The pair remembered the Duke as a father, a grandfather, a great-grandfather.

According to the Cambridges, the photo was taken at Balmoral in 2015. The unseen photo showed the monarch smiling at her granddaughter Princess Charlotte. Her spouse stood beside her while her grandson stood on the other holding Prince George's hand.
