Motion Picture Event 'Downton Abbey' Returns with a Second Film — Here Are the Details
Motion Picture has announced the return of "Downtown Abbey" for a second sequel to the 2019 adaption. The historical drama is set to feature new cast members.
After about two years since its first movie, the famous upstairs-downstairs drama "Downtown Abbey" is preparing for a comeback to the screens. The great news was announced on the official Twitter page via a statement that read:
"We're thrilled to announce that Julian Fellowes and the entire Downton cast are back for #DowntonAbbey2."

DETAILS ABOUT THE CAST
As announced, all of the original cast, including Imelda Staunton, Hugh Bonneville, Maggie Smith, and Michelle Dockery, would be returning in the new sequel, reprising their role.
They will be joined by a few new additions, including Laura Haddock, Hugh Darcy, Nathalie Baye, and Dominic West. It is, however, not sure what roles they would be playing or what their ranks would be in the household.
The project is already in the works as production began this April. It is set to be released in the theaters on December 22, 2021, to the delight of fans.
"Downtown Abbey," tells the story of the prestigious Crawley family and their staff as they navigate life in the early 1900s.
TIMING OF THE NEWS
The news of the second sequel came about a year after producer Gareth Neame revealed that he and Julian Fellowes were working on a follow-up adaptation. On Monday, Neame celebrated the success of their collaboration in a statement, saying:
"After a very challenging year with so many of us separated from family and friends, it is a huge comfort to think that better times are ahead. "
He expressed joy at the thought of the original cast reuniting after being apart for about two years and the delight fans would get when they get to gather at the cinema to watch the sequel.

Details about the sequel plot haven't been released, but Fellowes, who is also responsible for its ITV series of the same name, is in charge of writing the screenplay. Simon Curtis will be the director.

The first installment of the drama film was released in September 2019. It was a major box office success, grossing over $193 million worldwide, making it one of the highest-grossing films distributed by Focus Features.
The PBS series adaptation of the film premiered in September 2010 and lasted for six seasons. The show has been praised for its whirlwind storyline, making it one of the biggest television shows in history.
