Snoop Dogg and Shante first met as teenagers at Long Beach's Polytechnic High School in the 1980s. They were each other's prom dates, and the connection never broke.

By 2004, they had separated, and Snoop filed for divorce.

Through a near-divorce, devastating family loss, and — as it turns out — much more, Snoop and Shante have remained a unit. During an October 2024 appearance on "Today with Hoda & Jenna," Snoop laid out exactly why he considers his wife his best friend.

"One is that she always understood who I was and who I needed to become," he explained. "And then, on the second reason is, her just being my backbone, my foundation, my support, my reality, my other half of parenting, showing me how to be a better father and to be a better husband and a better grandfather."

On what he brings to the partnership, Snoop was equally direct: "I'm a loving, caring, providing husband. My wife ain't never worked a day in her life, and that's what I love is that I'm in a position of where you don't have to work. I am the work, and you are my backbone."

His secret to making love last? "Find out what your companion loves the most and concentrate on doing it the most. That's real love," he said.

And when it comes to why he never walked away for good, the answer is simple. "When we said we'd marry, we married 'til death do us part. Ain't that what it say? Not 'til arguments do us part or fighting or finances, but till death do us part."

These days, he says his priorities have never been clearer: "Family is everything. What makes me the happiest in my life right now is for my wife to be happy, and everybody in my family to be healthy, and to be on one accord, which is love."

Then came another blow. In late February 2025, Cori, Snoop's youngest child and only daughter, announced she was expecting her first child.

But during what she thought was a routine check for minor discomfort, doctors discovered she had HELLP syndrome, a life-threatening pregnancy complication, and performed an emergency C-section.

Baby Codi was born at just 25 weeks. For months, the family waited and hoped. On January 6, 2026, Cori posted photos of her daughter after she was finally discharged from the hospital. Then, on February 9, 2026, Cori announced that Codi had passed away.
