Mother of a Woman Killed on Mother's Day Was Also Killed the Same Way 16 Years Ago

Georgette Banks, who was stabbed to death on Mother's Day was the daughter of a woman who lost her life, in the same manner, many years ago.

Authorities have come up with discoveries on the death of Georgette Banks, a mom of five who was stabbed to death and found in the stairwell of an apartment building on Mother's Day.

Georgette, 47, was confirmed dead after her body was taken from MLK Avenue in Southeast D.C. Authorities shared that her throat was slit. However, the more perplexing side to her death is that this has happened before.

In August 2005, Georgette's mother, Gloria Banks, was stabbed to death in a parking lot of 14th Street NW. Gloria was 49 years old at the time of death. Gloria was walking from her daughter's house when she was killed.

Retired homicide detective Smokey Ward was the officer in charge of Gloria's case. He developed a suspect for a while but could not get substantial evidence to apprehend him.

Late Georgette's pal shared that she was always worried by her mother's violent death. So far, there has been no evidence that the assailant who killed Gloria is the same person who murdered her.

Another Mother's Day death recorded by authorities was the case of Selena Dukes.

Ward shared his thoughts, noting that he never came across a case such as Georgette and her mother in all the years that he was a detective. He referred to the situation as unusual.

Another case found perplexing was when officers at the Crittenden County sheriff's office responded to a call at the Snowden House in Horseshoe Lake. As they got to the crime scene, the officers saw a man fleeing.

The man was said to run across to the car he possibly came in before crossing to the other side and jumping into the lake. Authorities discovered the body of a 63-year-old woman, Martha McKay, inside the house.

The suspect, who was later identified as Travis Lewis, also listed his life after jumping into the lake. He was said to have killed McKay's mother 23 years before the time of her death.

Another Mother's Day death recorded by authorities was the case of Selena Dukes, who went to help a friend and got killed in the process. Duke went to help her friend pick up her child at the father's place.

However, a fight broke out between the process, and in a short while, the father, Diante Gore, drew a weapon and shot Selena on her back in the parking lot. He has since been placed on the wanted list.
