Multi-Platinum Songwriter J. Wright Arrested – He Is Accused of Killing His Girlfriend on Mother's Day

Justin L. Wright has been arrested after he was linked as a possible suspect in the death of his girlfriend. The songwriter is currently being held on a cash-only bond after appearing before a judge.

On Mother’s Day, things turned tragic when police had to investigate a death at a home on the 1500 block of Calvin Street in Davenport. Police responded after a disturbance was reported just before 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.

When they arrived at the scene, they discovered a gunshot victim, Wilanna S. Bibbs, 20, of Durham, North Carolina. Police were still at the scene of the crime investigating at around 9:30 p.m.

On the scene of the incident, a crime-scene technician and police searched vehicles parked in the driveway. They also searched an attached garage, and others took photos inside the house.

Crime-scene tape visibly surrounded the house. Authorities made headway in their investigation on Monday morning when they arrested an Atlanta man in Iowa and charged him with first-degree murder.

Multi-platinum songwriter Justin L. Wright, 31, was booked on Monday at 12:36 a.m. into Scott County Jail. The suspect was held without bond early Monday before seeing a judge who gave him $500,000 bail.

The suspect claimed he wasn’t making any money at the moment to afford an attorney and was appointed one by the court. He said he’d been living in hotels since November 2020 after his belongings were stolen.

Bibbs was Wright’s girlfriend at the time of her death. Speaking to the “Neighborhood Talk,” a family member of the deceased claimed Bibbs’ and Wright’s relationship was plagued by toxic behavior and abuse.

In 2003, Phil Spector was convicted of murdering actress Lana Clarkson at his mansion in Los Angeles.

The family member also alleged that Bibbs was actually trying to leave her songwriter boyfriend after being controlled and manipulated by him. The suspect’s preliminary hearing was scheduled for May 20, 2021.

In 2011, Wright launched his company, Camp Entertainment Worldwide. It opened up opportunities for him to work with big stars like Future, Timbaland, 21 Savage, Gucci Mane, Rick Ross, Bow Wow, DJ Khaled, and more.

Speaking about the music industry, Phil Spector, the music producer, passed away in January 2021. He was well-known for being an eccentric man who transformed rock music with his “Wall of Sound” method.

In 2003, Spector was convicted of murdering actress Lana Clarkson at his mansion in Los Angeles. He was sentenced to 19 years to life in 2009 and died at California state prison of natural causes at a hospital.
