A small village near a forest area known for its skilled hunters who often set out for fresh games was plunged into a state of dismay following the numerous attacks on the populace.

Once it gets dark, a grisly-looking lion often comes out of the woods to scare the locals with his roars, and sometimes, he injures or kills the villager's livestock.

This was the order of things until some hunters summoned the courage to hunt down the vicious predator. They sent out a search party day and night.

Instead of a victory against the animal, they became food for him. It was a disgraceful tragedy so the villagers reached out to neighboring towns for their help.

It took a few years before their call for help was heard by a young man named Killer John. One day, he arrived at the village hall to explain his intentions of ending their tragedy.

They were amazed, but many had their doubts. The villagers wanted to know this new hero's plans of executing the animal or even if he had any at all.

Killer John maintained his silence, smiled confidently, and enlisted the help of a few crafters. He asked the villagers to make a fake cow.

This cow would be positioned at the foot of the forest, thereby luring the lion inside. Then he would hide inside the cow and shoot the attacker on sight.

The people obeyed every word, went back home with the feeling of assurance that the vicious killer would meet his Waterloo.

By dawn, the villagers headed to the village's entrance to see if the trap captured the lion. They found the dummy cow in pieces while Killer John laid down on the sand with bloodstains all over his attire.

The people wanted to know if their supposed messiah killed the lion or not. Killer John refused to answer their questions, gave out a loud cry to keep them shut, and finally said:

"First, tell me, who let the bulls free last night?"
