AN ACQUIRED TASTE
While Dominos thinks the meal "might be an acquired taste," according to their video, Paterson shared a few details on how to make the perfect watermelon pizza.

RECREATING THE MEAL
Paterson explained that people wanting to recreate the meal must remember to cook the watermelon first before adding the toppings. This gets rid of excess moisture, and he also emphasized the sauce that is used.
He
:
"It’s very vital to use BBQ sauce rather than marinara/tomato. BBQ is already a tried and tested flavor combination with watermelon. Tomato (I haven’t tried myself but would assume) simply does not work."

UNIQUE DISH
Paterson was unsurprised that people who made a different version of his recipe did not enjoy it. He expressed that there are an array of viewers who did enjoy the unique dish.
According to Patterson, they appreciated the "sweet and smoky ... fatty salty richness" that came along with the meal. His inspiration for this pizza came thanks to a show he watched on Netflix.
INSPIRATION FOR THE MEAL
A contestant on "Crazy Delicious" won people over with their mix of barbeque and watermelon, so his idea was born. He expressed: "The judges really liked it, so I decided to recreate it myself."
Paterson opted to put his own twist on the meal. He knew the dish would garner a lot of responses, but the millions of views still bowled him over. He said: "I half expected it to cause a bit of controversy but didn’t expect it to go as far as it did."
ONLINE REACTION
Pizza lovers were quick to comment on the pizza chain's recreation of Paterson's dish. One user wrote: "I'm not buying anything from you guys again." Another stated: "Don't sell it, please."
Some users were impressed and asked if they could place an order for one of these meals. Others commended Dominos for trying unique pizza toppings but overall, people suggested they stick to the basics in the future.
