A group of strangers came together to surprise a waiter following a demeaning encounter with homophobic customers in a diner. Fortunately, the counteraction changed the waiter's financial status considerably.

One waiter in Wisconsin couldn't be happier after receiving over $4,500 in tips following a disheartening encounter with some homophobes at their workplace.

Facebook user Eric Salzwedel shared the waiter's ordeal on the platform, kickstarting a movement to turn the story around for the better. The movement was a success, ultimately paving the way for more good deeds towards the LGBTQ community.

Via Facebook, Salzwedel recounted how the restaurant worker waited a table with professionalism, only to receive a vile note from the diners just before they left.

The customers scribbled the homophobic message on the bill for their meal before passing it to the waiter. Salzwedel accompanied his narration with a copy of the note, which read: "Service was good, but we don't tip sinful homosexuals."

The good Samaritan explained that the disgraceful ordeal happened in a local restaurant in Madison. While it was impossible to figure out who scrawled the abusive message, the Facebook user decided to do much more.

After sharing the story, over 250 netizens donated to the course, amounting to over $4,500 in just two days. Others showed their support by dropping heartfelt comments while sympathizing with the waiter who got scorned because of their sexuality.

One user commented: "This hurts my heart, but so grateful to know someone like you Eric, who rallies others together for kindness. I'm a poor grad student now, but I'll send something small your way."

Most users were in awe of how the netizen managed to turn the situation around, hence bringing a positive effect from a negative encounter.

Others simply hoped the diners who sent the note eventually found out that their intention to humiliate a waiter ended up being a blessing for them.

True to his words, Salzwedel returned to the restaurant and presented the worker with their tip. He shared the update on Facebook, posting a copy of the new receipt, reflecting a tip of $4,500 from a $45.10 purchase.

Days after presenting the tip to the excited waiter, more people kept sending in cash donations. On the employee's request, $295 from the new donations were donated to The Trevor Project, an LGBTQ charity.

In addition, the server made a separate donation to the LGBTQ charity from the tip presented to him. Seeing the waiter giving back to society after his grand surprise goes to prove he was deserving of every penny that went into the cause.
