Pete and Chasten got married in 2018. He is the first cabinet security to come out as L.G.B.T.Q. He and Chasten, a former middle school teacher, are known to challenge perceptions of gay relationships.
Following the couple's announcement about being parents, Annise Parker, the president of the Victory Institute, explained that the couple's action would set a good example to other L.G.B.T.Q. families. She noted:
"As parents, they will now shine a national spotlight on L.G.B.T.Q. families, who often face daunting challenges because of outdated policies that narrowly define what families are."

PETE, AS THE US SECRETARY OF TRANSPORTATION
Pete was elected as the United States secretary of transportation under President Joe Biden's government. And at the time of Pete's nomination, President Biden referred to him as a "patriot and a problem-solver" who stands for the country's progress.
In a statement, the president's explanation showed that Pete was elected as the secretary of transportation because the position has so many challenges as opportunities for the country.
The president noted that Pete is trusted to handle the job with "a bold vision." President Biden's choice will make it the first time a president elects a former presidential opponent to join his government as a Cabinet secretary.
