Unfortunately, Gabby Sidibe has been a victim of bullying and body-shaming; she was once called "enormous" by a male celebrity. Instead of staying down, she got inspired and redefined her look.
Hollywood has changed the lives of millions and catapulted them to fame including "Empire" star, Gabby Sidibe. However, the downside to fame is that it comes with scrutiny and sometimes pain.
This makes it challenging for many to live a private lifestyle. However, some have been able to shield their most precious memories and details away from the prying eyes of the media, thus getting some peace of mind.
With the above description, it seems like maintaining a celebrity status is easy; the truth is, it really is not because the industry sets some unrealistic standards for beauty, making some go out of their way to meet such recommendations.
Women have been subjected to a particular beauty standard from having a model-sized figure to looking ravishingly beautiful amid their biological ages, which in turn makes many women insecure. Beauty however comes in various sizes and shapes.
Ultimately, while some have succumbed to the pressures, others have been bold to live their lives freely while trying to look their best, at their pace.
One of such celebrities is Gabby Sidibe, she is a talented young woman, an actress who is on the big side. But, more than once, people have tugged at her ego and made fun of her body type.
SIDIBE BEING CALLED "ENORMOUS" AND "FAT"
A few years ago, Howard Stern, a male celebrity, body-shamed Sidibe during his Sirius Satellite show co-hosted by Robin Quivers, following that year's Oscar Awards.
Stern described the actress as "enormous," and "fat," adding that she was the size of a planet and would never feature on any film. At the time, Sidibe's most famous work was "Precious."
Quivers even referenced the media mogul, Oprah, stating that she lied that Sidibe would soar in her career. The man's bullying attracted the attention of another actress, the iconic Whoopi Goldberg.
Goldberg exalted Sidibe's talent, revealing that her size should not get in the way of a possibly great and impressive career.
Alice Tan Ridley, the actress's mom was also quick to shut down Stern; she confidently talked about her daughter's size, maintaining that Sidibe can not be like every other person in the world.
SIDIBE'S HOURGLASS FIGURE
Since the body-shaming episode, Sidibe has proven the naysayers wrong and has appeared on hit shows like "Empire," and has even directed a few projects.
These days, the woman is a confident and proud person basking in the awesomeness of her body structure, irrespective of the size.
Sidibe has also put some work into resizing her physique through intense dieting and feels good about her current weight, which she often flaunts online.
A few minutes ago, she displayed her hourglass figure and trimmed body in a peach Ivy Park ensemble — crop top, matching kicks from Adidas, and cameo-themed dungarees.
The onscreen star accessorized the look with a headgear knotted around her locs and added transparent sunglasses while she posed leaning on the wall, with one hand to her face and the other to her hips.
A BRIEF HISTORY ON GABBY SIDIBE
Sidibe pays no mind to the critics no matter what they say about her body, but she has been particular about living a healthy lifestyle.
The "Empire" star embarked on a weight loss journey a few years ago. In her memoir "This Is Just My Face: Try Not To Stare," the actress explained that she was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes which led her to undergo surgery.
This was for her good, as her unhealthy eating habit was to blame for the extra pounds. The procedure involved her stomach being sliced into a smaller size to curb her ferocious eating and prolong her life.
Sidibe added that without the surgery, she would never have dropped a few pounds because she did not intend to cheat herself by staying away from food. In another interview, the onscreen star admitted that she did not mind her body, despite its size.
The celebrity mentioned that she has always been a big person and at age 6, she was on a diet. Still, it did not work as the "Empire" alum experienced some mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, and bulimia when she grew older.
THOUGHTS ON HER LOOKS
Ever since she began shedding some weight, Sidibe has earned praises from fans. This should have been an amazing time for her, especially since she has silenced naysayers with her trim figure.
However, Sidibe wants people to know that she is not moved by their exaltations. She told a TV co-host that she does not need to be celebrated because it is her body and people should focus on theirs.
For her, the admirations are misogynistic because the media and movie industry often sets standards for women and applauds them when they pass the requirements for being their type of beautiful, which sometimes involves promoting unhealthy habits.
Undoubtedly, Sidibe is a dose of confidence in all ramifications. She is an incredibly talented actress with an Oscar nomination and loves to set her own rules.
The "Empire" star was burdened with the need to look a certain way and thought she could change the narrative by not caring. This also affected her outlook on romance.
She did not deem it necessary to please anybody or any man and vowed to be mean to men. She was in love with herself until Brandon Frankel came along.
Frankel, a marketing and branding expert, met the star in 2019, and they began dating afterward. However, they decided to keep their relationship a secret until last year when her knight in shining armor gushed on his "queen" via a sweet post.
Before the year ended, they surprised fans with news of their engagement. These two raved on about being the missing pieces that complete each other's puzzles and have not backed down in their quest to show off their feelings.
Frankel, who is head over heel for his woman, often shares photos of him and his beau, while Sidibe continues to maintain a low profile concerning their relationship. Fortunately, whatever formula they subscribe to has helped their relationship and connection.
