First, to understand her actions, one must understand who she was, and bear in mind the Hollywood atmosphere of the era in which she thrived. It was a male-dominated space, and claims of affairs or sexual advancements often has a negative impact on the women involved.

Again, Young's involvement with another celebrity who was married could tarnish their image, so keeping the truth in faraway land made it easier for both parties to sail and advance their career. However, the actress was also humiliated.

She was confident, a brilliant star, and of ethereal beauty. It did not take the world long to accept her after her role in Lon Chaney's "Laugh, Clown, Laugh."

LORETTA YOUNG'S ROMANCE

Young was not the only beautiful child of her parents; her sisters were equally great-looking and possessed acting skills. During their early acting years, many teenage boys visited their homes to spend time with the girls.

However, her mother was a strict Catholic and tried to raise her girls to observe purity. Young wanted to explore, she was always the different one, and she proved to be the black sheep of the family by eloping at 17 to marry a 28-year-old man named Grant Withers.

A short time later, she retraced her steps, came home, but was ostracised from the family. Her mom and sisters refused to speak to her.

However, it was hard to kill the burning desire to love or be loved. After all, she was famous and came in contact with many folks; She was also very inquisitive and was in search of a real-life fairytale romance.

Either way, Young kept meeting people and falling in love with different men. She felt attracted to an actor who married another woman; she also loved a businessman, who, sadly, died during an operation.

The actress did not give up hope, and she fell for a Catholic man, Spencer Tracy, when he was separated from his wife. Tracy refused to have a divorce, and their relationship was defined as mere flirtation.

THE HOLLYWOOD-SCANDAL/YOUNG'S STORY

At 22, she met Clark Gable, a famous actor dubbed the king of Hollywood, a man known for philandering and being at loggerheads with his second wife. He also had a few unappealing records to his name such as drunk driving, but his managers managed the situation.

Years ago, the duo was seen together during their romantic involvement, they worked and stayed in the same space, but Young told journalists at the time that nothing happened, and she was right.

Shortly before their production team was called home, the flirting partners were kept in separate cabins on a train, and Young assumed that the episode would die down after their departure.

It was one of the last days when Gable entered her compartment. The details of the incident were not shared with any living soul.

Young was more than 80 years old when she decided to spill the beans after living a life with such a burden for so many years, with nobody to tell and no words to describe the incident that changed her life.

At the time of the revelation, she was already a happily married woman to her husband, a French fashion designer, Jean Louis. The couple was living in a comfortable home in Palm Springs.

Before breathing her last, the actress confided in her son, daughter-in-law, and longtime biographer. It was the story with Gable that made it into the shock list.

The actress described the experience on the train with the man whom she once flirted with as "date-raped." It happened once, but she became pregnant with her first child.

She acted normal after the alleged rape, concealed the pregnancy and childbirth with the help of her family, and later gave birth to a healthy child named Judy Lewis.

Lewis was kept in a Venice home with a nurse, Frenchie, and her mother visited often. Frenchie later turned on the family and threatened to blackmail them, leading Young to place her child in a Catholic orphanage, with hopes of adopting her one day.
