As David King, a Missouri grandfather, lay bedridden during the final days of his battle with cancer, his family could only think of one way to bring him fulfillment. Hence, they enlisted the nurses at the health facility to give him one last surprise.

Taking to Twitter in 2017, King’s granddaughter Ellie Miguel recounted how the family smuggled his beloved pet, a Yorkie mix, into his ward. The action went against the hospital’s strict no-pets policy, but no one seemed to mind.

In the since-deleted viral tweet, Miguel explained how her grandma, Cindy, eager to keep her husband happy, decided to sneak in the pup for one last goodbye.

Explaining further, the then-17-year-old pointed out that her grandfather loved his dog so much, and the two were inseparable during his best days.

The Yorkie mix, Lil Fee, always followed King wherever he went. Even as he battled cancer at the Missouri hospital, his wife had to bring him pictures of the pup and hang them all around him to keep him company until they met again.

As his ailment worsened, it became clear King may never make it home to see his dog. Hence, Cindy’s decision to take matters into her hands.

The maneuver would never have been possible without the help of the nurses. Miguel explained that the nurses always heard her grandma talk about Lil Fee.

When it became necessary, they encouraged her to smuggle the dog into the ward for a final cuddle. They brought up the idea of having Miguel’s aunt carry the pup in a large purse on her next visit.

The emotion-packed moment made all the effort worthwhile. Miguel recalled:

“For the first time that day, he moved his arm in an attempt to pet Lil Fee. It was a moment I will never forget.”

Days after the tear-jerking reunion, King

away at the hospital, making everyone glad they contributed to putting a smile on his face one last time.

Following the teenager’s emotional account, several netizens admitted to being in such a situation at some point and opting to sneak in pets for their ailing loved ones.

While some admittedly got the support of the nurses or other hospital employees, others had a tougher time trying to pull it off.

From disguising pets as babies to having someone deliver it as a parcel, the accounts of netizens kept pouring in, proving how comforting it could be to have one’s pet on hand.

Most Twitter users commended the kind nurses for coming through for the family and ensuring the patient’s final days were filled with joy and fulfillment.
