In 2016, a husband and wife tried to enjoy their dinner while watching TV. However, the woman unexpectedly began crying loudly and inconsolably. Her wailing echoed through the narrow streets around their home in Rome.

Soon, her husband was also moved to tears. A concerned neighbor believed a crime was taking place in their home and called the police to the scene. They discovered Michele, 94, and Jole, 84, sat down at their dining table.

AN UNEXPECTED ANSWER

When they asked them what was wrong, the couple's answer was unexpected. They didn't experience a crime in their home, nor was there a death in the family. They were emotional because of something they had witnessed.

The pair expressed that they were disturbed by the hatred they saw on their television screen. Paired with severe loneliness, the two of them felt emotional and could not stop the tears.

LONGED FOR COMPANY

The elderly pair did not need any protection. They simply longed for some company. The police were touched by their story and shared it on Facebook. The post stated that life wasn't always easy.

It also indicated that the couple was lonely because their neighbors were often on vacation. The post added that when the police arrived at the scene, there was no one to save, at least not in the way they had imagined.

POLICE SPENT TIME WITH THEM

Instead, they had to deal with a trickier task. They needed to uplift "two lonely souls." The couple, who had been wed for seven decades, was delighted with the chance of sharing their story with the police officers who ended up in their home.

The officers contacted an ambulance to inspect the couple and waited with them for the vehicle to arrive. During that time, they were served a delicious meal. The ingredients were basic, but according to the police officers, it had one special touch.
