Woman Changes Locks after Ex-husband Gave His Mother a Key to Her Place

A Redditor trusted her ex-husband with her house key. She thought it would help him pick up their sons during his custodial weekend. However, she was enraged after he gave the key to his mother without her consent.

The Redditor and her husband had divorced, and she got full custody of her three kids. However, the Original Poster (OP) ’s husband was granted one weekend a month with his two sons after the proceedings.

She was a work-at-home mom and agreed to let her husband have a spare key to her house. She thought it would help him get the boys without disturbing her and their baby. However, she was against anybody else visiting over from his side.

Around two months later, OP was shocked to find her ex’s mother in the living room. She was playing with her daughter. OP confronted her former in-law. She explained:

“I asked her how she got in, and she said that ex had given her his key so she could pick up the boys for him.”

OP couldn’t believe what she had just heard. According to the proceedings, her ex was the only one allowed to pick the boys. She strictly told her ex’s mother that she’d only let the kids with him the next time. Her mother-in-law agreed, and everything seemed fine for a while.

Almost a month later, her ex’s mother forced herself into OP’s house to pick up her sons. OP was furious because she’d already warned her against visiting over. She added:

OP was annoyed and called her boyfriend immediately. After hearing what had happened, OP’s boyfriend brought a new front door lock and fitted it.

However, she decided not to trust her husband with her house key again.

A few days later, someone banged the front door so loudly that OP lost her cool. She saw her ex’s mother at the door with her two sons. The older woman complained to OP that her keys weren’t working and requested a new one.

OP told her that the key didn’t work as she’d changed the lock. Her ex’s mother demanded the key, saying OP had to give her ex the new one anyway. However, OP refused and clarified that he wouldn’t be getting another key.

OP doubted if she restricted their access to her kids. She even wondered if her decision complicated the situation for all of them. After reading her post, user Holdenwasright commented:

OP claimed she was well within her legal rights and wasn’t restricting her ex’s family access to her kids. However, she decided not to trust her husband with her house key again.
