Danielle Gibson had just welcomed twins with her husband Tony when he was diagnosed with a brain disorder. In a heartbreaking video, the mom-of-four sang to her husband for the last time.

Words will never be able to describe the pain and heartbreak a woman goes through while watching her life partner slowly wither away.

But when Tony Gibson was diagnosed with a rare brain disorder, known as the human form of mad cow disease, his wife Danielle had to stay strong for both him and their newborn twins and two daughters.

THE DIAGNOSIS

The symptoms began in December 2017 when Tony’s memory rapidly deteriorated. In the GoFundMe page she set up, Danielle revealed:

“He would get so confused I would have to label the rooms in our home. We tried getting a diagnosis for months, but no one could figure out what was going on.”

It was only when they went to Vanderbilt University Medical Center that doctors discovered Tony’s sickness. He had Cruetzfeldt-Jakob disease.

AFFECTING TONY’S LIFE

Doctors claimed that the disease could have been from bad meat or genetics or the unknown. The 33-year-old dad slowly deteriorated. First, his memory was lost, then his ability to read, followed by his mobility.

One evening, the cops called and informed Danielle that her husband was found wandering the Nashville airport. It turned out that he had forgotten where he parked the car.

According to Danielle, the change came rapidly. “It’s just terrible. If I try to sort it out in my head, I would lose my mind,” she said. Still, Tony fought to live despite being given six months to one year left.

SINGING TO TONY

Danielle, while taking care of her kids, managed to stay by her husband’s side. One day, as he lay on the bed, Danielle sang his favorite hymn, “Amazing Grace.”

Becoming a widow is undoubtedly a huge and painful challenge, with each person having their way of coping with grief.

As soon as she began, Tony’s eyes immediately looked into hers in acknowledgement of what appeared to be a comforting sound to his ears. Sadly, it would be the last time she would sing to her husband.

THE PAINFUL GOODBYE

Three days later, on January 30, 2019, Tony joined his creator. Danielle updated the GoFundMe page days later, writing:

“On Wednesday January 30th at 11:58 p.m. Tony Gibson went to his heavenly home. I would like to ask for prayers of strength and peace, especially for our daughters [...].”

Becoming a widow is undoubtedly a huge and painful challenge, with each person having their way of coping with grief. When Bethany Ashabraner lost her husband, for example, she took comfort in hearing his last words before passing.

Although nothing can quickly soothe the pain, knowing that her husband gave her the strength to carry on was more than enough to make her want to live.
