For the first time in two years — during which they stepped down from their duties as Senior royals, moved to America, welcomed their second child, and weathered a pandemic — the Duke and Duchess of Sussex officially returned to the red carpet.

On November 10, 2021, in New York City, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry appeared at the 2021 Salute to Freedom Gala, where Prince Harry was set to give a speech and hand out medals honoring members of the military.

MARKLE'S JAW-DROPPING OUTFIT

Markle dazzled the crowd looking stunning in bright red, a color she has proven looks elegant and beautiful on her several times. She arrived on the red carpet dressed in a show-stopping plunging sleeveless gown made by Carolina Herrera.

The outfit featured a daring leg-slit and V-neck detailing. The mother of two paired her outfit with a pair of diamond earrings, a stunning updo, and matching velvet red slingback heels.

Markle accentuated her good looks with a lovely face beat, and she wore her brunette hair pulled back into a sleek top knot bun. On the other hand, the Duke, who served in the British army for ten years, opted for a classic black tuxedo with a matching bow tie.

Prince Harry ensured to hold his beautiful wife's hand for the duration of their red carpet appearance. The lovebirds also donned red poppy flower pins as a nod to the U.K's Remembrance Day on November 11.

PRINCE HARRY'S SPEECH

Later that day, Harry talked about the isolation service members often felt when returning home. In addition, the father of two stressed the importance of supporting veterans.

While speaking, Prince Harry noted that his experience in the military made him who he was. The Duke said he would always be grateful for the people he served with despite their present locations.

FANS' THOUGHTS ON MARKLE'S ROYAL TITLE

A day before the prestigious event, the couple were subjected to a series of backlashes following their refusal to renounce their titles, despite stepping down as members of the Royal Family.

Since their huge decision, Prince Harry and his wife have kept their titles as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Earl and Countess of Dunbarton, and Baron and Baroness of Kilkeel. Netizens are upset about the couple's choices and have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts.

One user relayed that the Duchess should be addressed as "Meghan Markle," adding that she had long lost the right to be addressed as "Duchess of The Royal Family."

A second user mentioned that for Prince Harry, losing the title was impossible because he was born a prince. The respondent also said the title was the only thing that identified Markle as Archie, her son's mother.

Another netizen stated that every move of Markle was calculated to earn her fame and attention, and to continue to use the title "Duchess" is one of them. The user further added:

"She sees herself as Diana, but she is just a joke."

PRINCE HARRY'S SERVICE IN THE ARMY

During his time in the military, Prince Harry embarked on two tours of duty to Afghanistan. In the first tour in 2008, the father of two went as a Forward Air Controller on the ground.

The second tour was in 2012, and Prince Harry went as an Apache Helicopter Pilot in the air. After serving his country for ten years, the Duke of Sussex retired in 2015. Three years later, he was awarded the Operational Service Medal for Afghanistan.

Despite all of his achievements during his service years, Prince Harry was stripped of his honorary military titles in 2020, after he stepped down from being a senior royal.

The titles were Captain General Royal Marines, Honorary Air Commandant, RAF Honington, Commodore in chief, Small Ships and Diving, Royal Naval Command.

After he lost the titles, Prince Harry was banned from wearing any military uniform. However, at the just-concluded event, he was allowed to pin his medals on his black suit.

The former senior royal may not be in the military anymore, but his impact will always be celebrated. He will always be recognized as a great man who served in defense of his nation.
