Whenever Lane placed his hand on his daughter's collar bone, it relieved the tube's pressure in her chest and provided some much-needed support.

He said: "So I spent a number of hours just sitting there with my hand on her heart, taking the pressure off and allowing the chest tube to not press up against the collarbone."

The father then turned his attention to the groom. Lane told his new son-in-law that it was now his turn to put a hand on his daughter's heart—indicating that it was now his turn to take care of her.

He concluded his speech with a powerful message and expressed:

"I thought it was a very good symbolism for what you get to experience now ... You're not going to outlove her and she can't outlove you. The two of you can only love each other."
