Cynthia Nixon, who shot to stardom in the late 1990s for her outstanding performance of Miranda Hobbes in "Sex and the City," knows about the many faces of parenting.

She raised two children with schoolteacher Danny Mozes before coming out as queer and marrying education activist Christine Marinoni. Nixon has three kids now, including one who came out as transgender.

CYNTHIA NIXON'S ELDEST CHILD, SAMUEL MOZES

Nixon was in a relationship with Mozes between 1988 and 2003. During their time together, they welcomed two children, Samuel and Charles.

Born Samantha in 1997, Samuel attended the University of Chicago and followed his mom's footsteps by working in the entertainment industry.

After graduating college in 2018, he worked as an assistant director on a "King Lear" theater production and was part of the Outreach department at the Steppenwolf Theatre Company.

For Nixon and Samuel, 2018 was a life-changing year. On June 22, the actress took to Instagram to announce that her son came out as a transgender person, marking the 14th annual Trans Day of Action.

The image showed Nixon, in a white blouse covered by a black blazer, and Samuel, wearing his cap and gown, at his graduation. They smiled next to each other in front of a podium at the University of Chicago.

It is essential to point out that Nixon has always been an LGBTQ+ rights supporter and even ran for governor of New York on a progressive campaign.

A month after revealing that Samuel was transgender, Nixon said he came out during his college years. She didn't expect it as it "came out of nowhere." Nixon confessed:

"It did seem in my view to come absolutely out of nowhere. Sometimes I think it would be easier if you had a child who dressed more obviously like the opposite gender."

In September 2018, Nixon pointed out that she didn't identify herself as a lesbian but a queer, meaning she didn't necessarily feel she fell under any label (bisexual, lesbian, etc.).

For years, Nixon kept under wraps the identity of Max's father.

Nixon, who is married to education activist Christine Marinoni, self-identifies as a woman and doesn't use the lesbian or bisexual labels for personal reasons.

GETTING USED TO SAMUEL'S TRANSITION

Although Cynthia fully supported Samuel's transition, she admitted getting used to the male pronouns was challenging. She said Samuel preferred "they" for a while, which was even harder to adapt to.

Over time, everything became more natural. Nixon added that there were different types of transgender people. Some trans men feel masculine and want to be masculine, but others want to opt out of gender.

Before Cynthia knew about Samuel's transition, she read an article about parents of pre-pubescent kids struggling with their sexuality and discovered a powerful testimony.

One of the dads concluded that he could either have a "dead son or a live daughter." Cynthia then learned that you need to listen to what others tell you about themselves as a parent and human being.

CHIMING IN THE J.K. ROWLING'S CONTROVERSY

Unfortunately, not everyone accepts other people's sexuality, including the "Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling. In June 2020, she tweeted an article titled "Opinion: Creating a more equal post-COVID-19 world for people who menstruate." In a follow-up tweet, Rowling wrote:

"'People who menstruate.' I'm sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?"

Rowling's remarks offended many on social media, but she defended her stance. A month later, Nixon admitted Rowling's comments were "painful" for Samuel because a large portion of his childhood was linked to the "Harry Potter" franchise.

Cynthia added that Rowling's books were supposed to be about championing uncommon people, so it was "really baffling" that the author denied the existence of a selected group of people because they were different.

CYNTHIA NIXON'S SECOND CHILD, CHARLES MOZES

Born on December 16, 2002, Charles Mozes is Cynthia and Danny's youngest son. Nixon was pregnant with Charles during the fourth season of "Sex and the City," which perfectly aligned with the show's narrative (her character was also pregnant).

Marinoni was "undeniable," and she couldn't let her just walk by.

Although Nixon has not shared many details about Charles with her fans, he might be interested in becoming a D.J. or music producer. For his 17th birthday in 2019, he got a record-player cake. In the caption, Nixon wrote that Marinoni baked the cake to celebrate his "love of vinyl!"

CYNTHIA NIXON'S LAST-BORN, MAX NIXON-MARINONI

On February 7, 2011, Cynthia Nixon's partner, Christine Marinoni, gave birth to Max, her youngest son. Nixon and Marinoni met in 2001 during a campaign for smaller class sizes in the New York public school system.

Nixon was still romantically involved with Mozes, so nothing romantic happened. When Mozes and Nixon parted ways in 2003, she and Marinoni grew closer.

They began dating in 2004, and Marinoni became the first woman Nixon ever dated. The actress confessed she realized Marinoni was "undeniable," and she couldn't let her walk by.

Marinoni and Nixon got engaged in 2009 and tied the knot in May 2012, one year after gay marriage became legal in New York. For years, Nixon kept under wraps the identity of Max's father.

In October 2019, Nixon shared a photo of costume designer Michael Growler working on a Pennywise Halloween costume for Max and revealed he was the boy's dad.

Growler and Nixon have known each other for decades. They worked together for the first time in 2006's "Rabbit Hole" and then joined forces again on both "Sex and the City" films.

Nixon and Growler recently worked on "The Little Foxes" stage production in 2017. Growler is married to William Bowers, an actor and mime who is also a father figure for Max. What a beautiful family!
