Parenthood is an essential rite of passage. Becoming a parent is an effable sentiment that changes people in the most remarkable ways. Seeing your little ones grow up and become their own person is an immense source of joy for any parent.

In the words of Paulo Coelho, "Happiness is something that multiplies when it is divided," and a single U.S. mom experienced something similar when she embraced motherhood more than once in less than a year.

The 32-year-old mom was in a new relationship at the time and took a pregnancy test before going on birth control. She didn't expect the test results would be positive but soon learned she was three weeks into her pregnancy.

PREGNANT WITH TWINS

The 32-year-old mom was in a new relationship at the time and took a pregnancy test before going on birth control. She didn't expect the test results would be positive but soon learned she was three weeks into her pregnancy.

Daphne was only 94 days old when Hansen learned about her second pregnancy. Over ten months after delivering Daphne, she welcomed twin girls Rubie and Penelope on December 8, 2020.

According to Dr. Christine Greves, an OBGYN at Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies in Orlando, Florida, most women start ovulating again six weeks after giving birth. Hansen said the same thing happened to her.

OVERCOMING THE SHOCK

The single mom explained that the news came as a complete shock to her because she was in a "newborn fog" at the time and acclimating to her new relationship. Initially, Hansen battled with a myriad of varying emotions, including guilt.

She particularly feared for her first-born daughter, Daphne, and felt she might not be able to give her proper time and care. The Washington state mother also wondered if she could handle back-to-back babies.

THE THREE MUSKETEERS

But her sadness subsided when she brought the twin girls home. Daphne didn't know how to walk then, but she instantly fell in love with her baby sisters and loved smothering them with tender hugs and sweet kisses.

Hansen's bundles of joy continue to thrive. Daphne is now two, while Rubie and Penelope are 15 months old. The trio is practically inseparable. Hansen also expressed:

“They are the Three Musketeers. They’re on the same schedule. They eat, bathe and play together. They share a room.”

FINDING CALM IN THE CHAOS

The mom-of-three is no longer involved with her twins' father and agrees that being a single parent can be chaotic. She told TODAY: "It's total chaos. But it's the best chaos."

Hansen and her ex remain on cordial terms and co-parent the three girls despite not being together. Hansen recalled that she was devastated when she broke up with her ex, but she plucked up the courage to act maturely and move on.
