Johnny Depp and Amber Heard's feud has been ongoing, especially after the actress released an op-ed for the Washington Post, calling herself a victim of abuse. Depp's defamation trial against Heard began this year.

Amber Heard and Johnny Depp have been the talk of the town for months after allegations were made against the actor, citing domestic abuse.

Heard stood in court for the four-week trial of Depp's suit against her. According to Heard, she knew she had to leave Depp after the first time he hit her.

"I knew I couldn't just forgive him, right, because that means it will happen again," Heard said in tears during the trial. "I was heartbroken."

Depp is suing the actress after her 2018 op-ed for the Washington Post was released. Heard described herself as "a public figure representing domestic abuse." Let's take a closer look inside their relationship, which led to a court trial.

Depp and Heard first crossed paths in 2009 while filming "Rum Diary," where they played on-screen lovers. According to the "Sweeney Todd" star, he felt a connection with Heard after an intimate kissing scene. He said:

“That moment was, it was, it felt like something. It felt like something I should not be feeling. I think there was something in the kiss in the shower that was real.”

It wasn't until three years later that they reunited for a movie promotion tour. By then, he had parted ways with his longtime partner, Vanessa Paradis, with whom he shares two kids.

In 2014, after two years of dating, Depp, and Heard got engaged, and they couldn't be any happier. A source revealed that Heard enjoyed being with Depp's kids and went out of her way to spend quality time with them.

They tied the knot at his Los Angeles home the following year and had another wedding celebration in the Bahamas with their closest family and friends.

In 2016, after 15 months of marriage, Heard filed for divorce and requested a restraining order against her husband, claiming she was abused while he was intoxicated.

Although the "Pirates of the Caribbean" star denied the allegations, he was forced to give a $7 million divorce settlement, which Heard distributed to two organizations – the ACLU and Children's Hospital of Los Angeles.

However, their story did not end there. In 2018, Heard wrote an op-ed for The Washington Post about domestic abuse. Although she did not mention Depp's name, it was clear that he was being referenced. The post affected Depp in several ways, including a job he lost because of the publication.

The actor sued his ex-wife for defamation over the article for $50 million the following year. Although Heard tried to dismiss the suit, her efforts to do so failed.

In 2022, the defamation trial against Heard began. She released several claims about Depp, such as being physically and verbally abused. "I remember being afraid that Johnny might not know when to stop and that he might kill me," she said.

Depp and Heard did not have children of their own throughout their relationship. However, after their divorce, Heard announced that she welcomed a daughter through a surrogate mother.

On April 8, 2021, she had her first daughter, Oonagh Paide Heard. She announced the news on her Instagram account, writing, "I hope we arrive at a point in which it's normalized to not want a ring to have a crib," seemingly shading her marriage to Depp.

Meanwhile, Johnny Depp has tried to move forward with his life by reinventing himself and his career. Although he lost a libel case against a tabloid, many rallied behind the actor to clear his name and seek justice.
