Many of us know Margot Robbie from "Martin Scorsese's" "Wolf of Wall Street" and her portrayal of the sympathetic villain Harley Quinn. Taking out her colorful pigtails and putting on a tricorn hat, will we see her grace our screens in the new "Pirates of the Caribbean" film?

Since the case between actors Johnny Depp and his ex-wife began raging, rumors, questions, and theories have been flying around. One of them is whether Australian-bred actress Margot Robbie will replace the endearingly drunken pirate in the upcoming "Pirates of the Caribbean 6."

As for now, it appears that the public is, as the court would say, simply "speculating" on what could or could not happen. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer hasn't been clear either, stating, "...the future is yet to be decided." But there are some credible clues...

WILL MARGOT ROBBIE JOIN "THE PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 6" CAST?

One nugget that the producer did reveal was that there are two scripts -- one with Robbie and one without her.

The actress herself said that it's too soon to tell what the final decision will be, making sure to keep quiet about saying too much at this moment.

Of course, if Robbie were to become part of the film, she would be replacing Depp's arguably most iconic character, Captain Jack Sparrow.

Whatever the trial's outcome and considering Robbie's impressive acting chops, it would still be intimidating to step in this well-beloved Disney character's shoes.

WILL JOHNNY DEPP BE BACK IN "PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 6?

Beyond veiled comments from Robbie and the producers, the Captain himself also had something to say about the matter.

He claimed that he would never work with the franchise again after their treatment of him. This is because, as his ex-agent believes, too, Depp was fired from his role because of his ex-spouse Amber Heard's domestic abuse allegations against the actor.

Depp said that he was thrown out by Disney only a week after Heard published her Op-ed, where she allegedly implied that he abused her while they were married.

Yet, despite these bitter remarks from the former pirate, Bruckheimer still feels the future is undecided. Depp has also previously stated he wanted to give the character of Captain Jack Sparrow a fitting ending.

Then there are Depp's fans, and with the obvious upsurge in support for him that has come along with his defamation case, some are asking if he will return as their favorite pirate.

WHEN WILL "THE PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 6" BE RELEASED?

While Depp's participation remains unknown, we may see two original favorites returning to the franchise: Orlando Bloom and Kiera Knightly playing lovers, Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann.

Their son, Henry Turner, played by Brenton Thwaites, will most likely be coming back alongside his better half, Kaya Scoldelario, who plays Captain Barbossa's long-lost daughter, Carina Barbossa.

If Robbie does get the part, the film could take a female empowerment twist, with Kaya Scadelario as a co-lead. The story may allude to the legend of the ruthless female pirates, Anne Bonny and Mary Read.

With no official release date yet, all we can do is wait with our jar of dirt in hand and hope that whoever they choose is the right decision for all involved.
