Couple Decides to Renovate Their House, Finds an Old Suitcase Full of Money in the Wall
Sometimes, the best moments in life happen unexpectedly. And when it does, not all surprising situations are bad. Sometimes, it could mean good fortune, as it was for this couple who made a discovery while refurbishing an old house.
Although a surprising situation may leave its witnesses extremely angry, in unbelief, or overwhelmingly excited and thankful, one thing common with these emotions is their unquantifiable intensity.
Understanding this makes it easier to believe that surprises can be either good or bad, whether planned, like marriage proposals, birthdays, or unplanned, like becoming famous on TikTok over a short clip posted overnight.

Sometimes, however, these surprises happen by chance, and that was the story of this couple who topped the headlines in 2016.
THE POST THAT GOT EVERYONE TALKING
In 2016, a Reddit user by the name of Branik12, who also worked as a home remodeler, shared his unbelievable experience with other internet users via Imgur.
He and his wife came by some stashed currencies in an old box, more than enough to change a life. Many people congratulated the couple on their newfound fortune, and the news made it to TV, where news anchors debated how they would have reacted if the tables were turned.

THE GENESIS OF THE STORY BEHIND THE BUZZ
Branik12, a 35-year-old, had gained experience remodeling through constant practices when he embarked on a quest to renovate his classic home with his wife. The couple were residents of a 1940s building and had lived in it for some years before deciding to change some parts.
First, they focused on remodeling their home's first and second floors and then proceeded to the basement. As expected, it was dusty, but this did not deter the couple who began yanking parts of the ceiling. According to the post:
"Time to remove the ceiling now and it sucks! There is a good 1/4 inch of dust on of the ceiling. We put up plastic to keep the dust out of the rest of the house and exposed then patched the air returns first."

While they disintegrated the basement, the couple soon noticed an old suitcase baked in dust from years of hiding behind the wall. It felt heavy, yet they carried it outside for a closer inspection. While recounting the incident, the man wrote:
"It has something inside, but not heavy like coins or gold bars. Might get lucky though. Could be old sports cards."

WHAT THEY REALLY FOUND INSIDE
Immediately after the duo opened the box, they saw three packages wrapped in wax paper. Another shocking item was a Cleveland Plain Dealer Newspaper at the base. The newspaper was dated March 25, 1951, giving out the date the package was hidden and the home's location.
Their curiosity led them to open the first package, and what they found inside was somewhat shocking— money! According to the couple, they thought it was a setup and searched for hidden cameras. In their words:
"These are all twenties! There may be a couple thousand here! We are freaking out at this point. This doesn't happen to us! What do we do? Where are the cameras?"

When they opened the second package, it was even more overwhelming; the cash was in fifties. On getting to the third wrapped bundle, they found currencies in hundreds! The home remodeler wrote:
"Some of the bills were rarer than others. Some brown notes, a gold certificate, and some star notes nearly uncirculated. All bills were from 1928-1934."
WHAT WAS THEIR NEXT LINE OF ACTION?
Although, at first, they were not sure if it was a prank, once they had cleared their doubts, they started researching the bills and later proceeded to their lawyer for legal advice and to know if it was keepable. Eventually, they decided to keep the funds that would help settle the most pressing bill—their mortgage.
The couple maintained: "This was a wild ride for us, and I hope you all enjoyed it too. We are boring people and have been dumping our extra money to pay off our mortgage, and that is where this money will go too."
