83-Year-Old Man Welcomes Son with His Wife, Has to Prepare Him for Life without a Dad

When an elderly man discovered that his wife was pregnant with their baby boy, he was thrilled and couldn't wait to embrace parenthood. But coupled with the heartwarming joy of becoming a father, he knew he had to prepare his son for something important.

Parenthood is powerful enough to change people in the most surprising ways. It's a journey unlike any other, where a couple's entire world revolves around ensuring their little ones are well-fed, loved, protected, and cherished.

AN AFFECTIONATE FATHER

Alberto Cormillot is a nutrition expert based in Argentina. In addition to being a doctor, he's also a devoted father to two adult boys, Renee and Adrian. Dr. Cormillot is also a grandfather and has three granddaughters.

He lost his first wife, Monika Arborgast, in 2017, and after her death, his time was divided between his work as a nutritionist and his children. The Argentinian man went on to remarry and was over the moon when he received a piece of delightful news.

WELCOMING THEIR RAY OF SUNSHINE

After a successful fertility treatment, his wife, Estefania Pasquini, became pregnant with their child, and the couple welcomed a baby boy into their hearts and home. They named their son Emilio.

However, being an older parent comes with its own struggles and advantages.

Dr. Cormillot gave an insight into his family's situation when his story was published online and gained recognition in June 2022.

MAPPING OUT THE FUTURE

The nutritionist explained that he has hired a private tutor to teach the Chinese language to his nine-month-old son, who is reaching all his milestones.

Cormillot said he and his wife began planning their baby's future right after learning about the pregnancy. Moreover, the doctor also said that he wants his son to learn and understand Chinese because it's the language of the future.

A SPECIAL FOCUS ON CHINESE

While sharing his thoughts about Emilio's tutor and his Chinese language classes, Cormillot added:

"Emilio has a person who twice a week talks to him, sings to him and plays for him in Chinese. As it is the language of the future, I want him to get used to hearing it as a child and he will find it easier to learn it better when he grows up."

Dr. Cormillot revealed that a female tutor comes to his house and speaks Chinese with Emilio to help him get used to the sound of the language. He further said:

"I don't know if he will speak in Chinese in the future, but at least that's how we can incorporate it."

AN ACTIVE PARENT

The 83-year-old Argentina-based nutritionist said he is actively involved in his son's upbringing and tries his best to spend as much time as possible with little Emilio. He also expressed:

"I'm aware that life is not infinite. That little guy's here and I'm going to accompany him until a certain moment. Until that happens I plan to enjoy every day to the fullest and make plans that are more short-term, which means I enjoy every day as fully as I can."

In addition to teaching his son Mandarin, Cormillot is also teaching his son how to crawl and play the piano and even shared a lovely clip of himself with his little one at the keyboard.

PREPARING HIM FOR THE FUTURE

The doctor confessed he spends each day knowing that he won't get to see his boy grow up. For this reason, Cormillot said he tries to make their time together as exciting as possible and wishes to leave his son with worthwhile memories.

In fact, the father shared he has already started preparing his son for the future by leaving several audio and video messages Emilio will get to hear as he grows up. He also added:

"That means that although he still really is a baby, he has a phone number with WhatsApp in which I record audio and send him videos. I don't over-dramatise things, I just record the reality of life."

AN UNCONVENTIONAL PARENT

The father-of-three was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2012, but he said that all traces of the tumor were removed by surgery. But given his health scare and advanced age, Cormillot has indeed proven to be an unconventional parent, alongside the support of his 35-year-old wife, Pasquini.

Drawing from his experience and expertise as a nutrition expert, Dr. Cormillot has authored over a hundred scientific papers presented at international conferences and journals and penned over 50 books, mainly on health education.

THE PROS OF BEING AN OLDER PARENT

Like Cormillot, many people prefer to embrace parenthood at a later age. However, being an older parent comes with its own struggles and advantages. Having kids later in life can guarantee financial security, as older parents tend to be financially stable to raise children.

Financial security can also translate into having more time to spend with little ones. Older parents who have worked for a large part of their lives are likely to have accumulated more vacation time and personal leaves.

Couples who become parents later in life might have a greater appreciation for having kids, given all the time they've spent planning and saving for their offspring. Older parents might also have more life experience that can enable them to build stable and lasting relationships with their kids.

AN ELDERLY PARENT'S STRUGGLES

On the contrary, elderly parents might suffer from some dilemmas, such as a "generations gap," especially if they are three or four decades apart from their children. Older parents can quickly feel drained and are more prone to parental exhaustion.
