Although the Obamas are no longer America's first family, they remain an influential and well-respected clan with several global supporters. Many continuously keep up to date with their lives and follow their personal social media accounts.

This goes not only for the parents but also for the Obama siblings. Living in the public eye is certainly no easy feat, but former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama's children, Malia and Sasha, handle it well.

Their firstborn, Malia, who turned 24 on June 4, 2022, particularly caught the public's interest in her personal life, including her long-time relationship with Rory Farquharson. Here's more about the former first daughter's British boyfriend.

MALIA OBAMA WAS FIRST SPOTTED WITH RORY FARQUHARSON BACK IN 2017

The press first caught a glimpse of Malia's lover when she was spotted kissing a mystery man at a Harvard-Yale football game in 2017. A short video of them locking lips was captured and circulated on the internet.

It didn't take long for people to discover that her boyfriend was a fellow Harvard University student and former head boy at Rugby School, Rory, whom she met in school. Malia was a freshman from the academic year 2017 to 2018, while he, who is her age, was a sophomore.

Rory is of British descent and attended a private boarding school growing up. Before going to Harvard, he interned at Northern Island Centre for Democracy and Peace Building. Then 19 years old, Rory was considered quite popular among his peers.

He is also academically gifted and athletic, representing his alma mater in rugby and golf games. In fact, he appeared in a rugby video that was played at the 2015 World Cup Opening ceremony. Prince Harry also partook in the short clip.

He seems to be a good catch. However, he seems to be quite the smoker. In nearly every photo from their outing, the young man was seen with a cigarette in his hand. Malia seemed to have also developed a bad smoking habit, although there is no telling who began smoking first.

They are also connected to the British royal family as Rory is the second cousin of Andrew Farquharson, a long-time courtier and Assistant Master of the Household at Buckingham Palace.

Dating a public figure undoubtedly places someone under a microscope, which Rory knew from the start. Still, the young couple can't seem to escape prying eyes and have been spotted on numerous occasions.

From these different sightings, one could tell that the couple has adapted to New York fashion. Rory undoubtedly has an eye for style and keeps up with the latest trends seen on A-listers, including sporting a pair of tiny sunglasses.

RORY COMES FROM A WEALTHY FAMILY WITH LINKS TO THE BRITISH ROYAL FAMILY

Rory is the son of Charles, a London investment firm's chief executive, and Catherine Farquharson, an accountant. Rory Farquharson's parents are both wealthy and intelligent, with his dad a graduate of Cambridge University.

They are also connected to the British royal family as Rory is the second cousin of Andrew Farquharson, a long-time courtier and Assistant Master of the Household at Buckingham Palace.

Andrew is the man behind the budget for refreshments at events such as state budgets and summer picnics at Balmoral. He was also the one who influenced the Queen to choose Tesco over the usual Christmas pudding from Harrods. Her Majesty later made Andrew a member of the order of chivalry.

RORY DELETED HIS SOCIAL MEDIA AFTER HE STARTED DATING MALIA

Although many still want to know more about Rory, there is not much they will find from his personal social media accounts as he deleted them since starting a relationship with Malia. Perhaps what remains are a few photos on Facebook.

As a child, Malia earned $1 every week for completing all her household chores. This taught her how money is made through work.

His decision to wipe out his social media is entirely understandable, given his high-profile girlfriend. It's also similar to what Meghan Markle did when she began dating Prince Harry to avoid scrutiny.

RORY QUARANTINED WITH THE OBAMAS IN THE EARLY DAYS OF THE PANDEMIC

Although the duo has been hanging out in public, the pandemic restricted them from going outdoors. During the onset of COVID-19, Rory stayed with the Obamas as he couldn't travel back to London due to the lockdown restrictions. Former Cheif of State, Barack, said:

"There was this whole visa thing. He had a job set up, and so we took him in, and I didn't want to like him, but he's a good kid."

He even quipped about Rory's diet while living together. "The only thing you discover [is] young men eat," he said. "It's weird to watch them consume food, and my grocery bill went up by about 30 percent."

WHAT MICHELLE AND BARACK OBAMA THINK ABOUT THEIR DAUGHTER DATING

As parents, Michelle and Barack always keep an eye out for their daughters and can't help but notice how fast time flies. During an interview on the "Ellen DeGeneres Show," Michelle said that her girls were once more interested in the Jonas Brothers. She added:

"Now they're bringing grown men home. Now they have boyfriends and real lives and all that stuff. They have grown up right before our very eyes, and they are doing well."

Meanwhile, her husband believes he is relaxed about his daughters dating because they have a great example, their mother, growing up. "She's such a great example of how she carries herself, not depending on boys for validation," he said.

The former President also hopes that he has been a good example of how to treat a lady with respect as he does with Michelle. "I don't worry about [them dating] because they're really solid, smart girls," he added. "And because they have secret service."

After spending a part of the COVID quarantine together, Malia's father got to know Rory even more and described him as a "wonderful young man," perhaps a sign of approval for her daughter.

Michelle and Barack have certainly raised their daughters well as people with good judgments of character. Beyond that, they are also intelligent women who hold valuable life lessons taught by their parents.

The couple raised their kids as humble and kind women who valued contentment at a young age. Malia and Sasha never received birthday presents in the past because the money was spent on the celebration itself.

"They get so much stuff that it just becomes numbing," Michelle said. "Malia believes there is still a Santa Claus, but Malia says, 'Ma, I know there is a Santa because there's no way you'd buy me all that stuff."

Michelle and Barack also taught Malia and Sasha how to value every penny earned through experience. As a child, Malia earned $1 every week for completing all her household chores. This taught her how money is made through work.

Although their parents set rules and boundaries at home, it did not mean that the siblings always accepted them. Malia and Sasha would hear their mother's lecture about the need for rules and values at times of protest. Like normal families, there would also be internal arguments and misunderstandings between mother and child.

Regardless of the minor inconveniences they underwent growing up, Malia and Sasha remained close to their parents and stayed in a tight-knit family. It is no surprise that the Obamas are still among the most influential families today.
