"Mr. McGuire has gone out, finally!"Tim Alan sighed under his breath. "I can finally have my hamburger after I'm done with that old lady."

Tim began working as a cashier in the grocery store on the outskirts of town two months ago. It was owned by self-made businessman Lucas McGuire, a famous personality in that part of Littleton, Colorado.

The cashier assumed his boss had already left the store for lunch, so he was rude to an old customer who was the last in line at the checkout counter. Little did he know the boss's eyes were fixed on his appalling antics. And what happened next was a lesson to any aspiring job seeker who wants to work in Mr. McGuire's grocery store...

Lucas McGuire, 40, had started as a simple loader in a supermarket 20 years ago. He then became a cashier and later manager of the grocery store he now owned. He knew it took a lot of hard work to reach success and fame.

"Stop your drama, will you?" the cashier yelled at the poor woman. "People like you shouldn't come to rich stores like this. Get lost! And stop wasting my time."

Lucas had nobody and was raised in an orphanage. Though he made enough money to live a king's life, he often remembered his humble beginnings.

Lucas was always grateful to the Almighty for blessing him with abundance in everything. Moreover, the rich man's fundamental policy was to treat everyone equally with love and respect. So when he overheard the nasty things his cashier said to a poor old shopper in his store, Lucas was not someone who would keep quiet. He calmly watched till the end and then did the unthinkable.

"Make it fast," Tim told an elderly woman who struggled to push her shopping cart to the counter. "Why do you shop more than you can carry?"

The old lady looked helpless. Since she was the only one at the counter, she found no help to push her heavy trolley. She looked for the loader who helped her move it to the queue, but he wasn't there. She then looked at Tim and asked him if he would help her.

"Look, I'm a cashier, not a loader, lady. I get paid to check people out...Not to move customers' carts around, okay."

"But son, this is so heavy. I hope you don't mind waiting for a few seconds. I'll bring it to you myself."

After a little struggle, the old lady wheeled the cart to the counter and waited to be billed.

"$350!" Tim said. "Cash or card?" The cashier looked at the old lady, extending his hand for the payment. "Make it fast, will you? I have work to do."

At this point, Lucas had just exited his office from the farther end of the cash counter. He overheard the cashier shouting at the poor woman and stopped.

"What is it, lady? What are you digging in your bag?"

"I'm looking for my wallet...It was here when I left home," the woman disappointedly said. "I can't seem to find it now."

"Look, lady...If you didn't have money, why did you come here? This is a grocery store, not a charity."

A shocked Lucas heard everything. But he decided to stay calm and wait until the end.

"I'm sorry...It must be under my Bible. Please give me a second," the old woman cried. But she never found her wallet in her bag. "Jesus Christ, save me. What am I going to do for groceries?" she sobbed. "And that wallet...It's my late son's."

The poor old lady wept, thinking about the wallet. It was one of her few memories of her late son, and she was crushed to see it gone.

"Stop your drama, will you?" Tim shouted at the poor woman. "People like you shouldn't come to rich stores like this. Get lost! And stop wasting my time."

It was at this point that Lucas lost it. He pussyfooted behind the cashier and stood there as the older woman looked at him in disbelief.

"Why are you still standing here? Didn't you hear me? GET LOST!" Tim shouted again.

"Mrs. Elliot?!" Lucas exclaimed in joy and hugged the woman. "It's been a long time since I saw you."

The cashier was startled when he turned around. He pretended as though nothing had happened. His hands trembled, and his eyes widened, filled with shock and fear.

"Please come with me and shop whatever you want. You don't have to pay a dime for anything, Mrs. Elliot."

"Lucas McGuire?" the poor old lady exclaimed in tears. "Oh, how are you? It's been a long time. You remind me of Robert," she sobbed.

It turned out that Robert and Lucas were in the army before Lucas bought the store. After becoming the manager, Lucas quit his gigs to join the armed forces. During a fateful war, Robert fell in front of Lucas during a shelling, thus saving his dear friend's life.

Lucas was forever grateful for Robert's sacrifice, and he had met his mother while delivering the sad news of his mate's death. After that, Mrs. Elliot moved out of town to live with her sister. She returned to her hometown a few months ago, and Lucas hadn't seen her for a long time until that day.

Angered by his staff's behavior towards his late friend's mother, Lucas stormed to the counter after leaving Mrs. Elliot in the aisle. Tim stood there, pale and in fear.

"I'm s-sorry, Mr. McGuire...I did not know that she was acquainted with you."

But Lucas was seething with anger.

"Get out, you scoundrel! You're fired!... Get out, right now!" he yelled at Tim. "Here, take your pay and OUT! GET LOST!" Tim shuffled out of the check-out counter in a rush, his future there over.

Lucas helped Mrs. Elliot with her groceries and drove her to her house. Although she offered to pay him, he refused to accept money from her.

"It's nothing compared to the sacrifice your son made for me. I'm forever grateful for that," he cried in her arms.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Elliot was elated to find her late son's missing wallet at home. "Good gracious! I thought I'd never see it again," she exclaimed in tears.

After learning that his late buddy's mother lived alone, Lucas offered her to move in with him. Although reluctant initially, Mrs. Elliot couldn't deny the stubborn man who insisted he would look after her like a son.

Shortly after, Mrs. Elliot moved in with Lucas, and he cared for her like her son. He was pleased to be finally showered with a mother's love and affection.

From that day on, Lucas also made sure only to hire staff who passed his policies and knew how to respect everyone regardless of age and status.
