Marcel Young is the only son of Dr. Dre with Michel'le Toussaint. Although both of his parents are in the music industry, Marcel followed his own career path and lived a relatively private life.
Marcel Young was born into a family of celebrities. His father is American rapper Dr. Dre, and his mother is R&B singer Michel'le Toussaint, known for her hit singles "No More Lies" and "Something in My Heart."
Despite his parents' fame, Marcel chose a life away from the spotlight. However, there are known facts about him derived from interviews and posts, including Marcel's good relationship with his mom.
MARCEL YOUNG: A CHILD BORN TO CELEBRITIES
The couple welcomed Marcel in 1991 when Michel'le was still active in the music industry. However, her career slowly deteriorated following Marcel's birth. At that time, Dr. Dre was not ready to fulfill his role as a father and was focused on building his career.
Eventually, the duo separated in 1996, leaving Marcel with a broken family at five. "The Next Episode" artist turned out to be a physically abusive man, making their home chaotic and divided. Nevertheless, Dr. Dre financially supported his son over the years
"When you're living in it, you can't see it," Michel'le said about her experience. "But I couldn't believe that I was really living like that, and it really resonated with me. Never did I wake up and ask Dre., 'Why did you hit me?'"
As time passed, Michel'le fell in love again and walked down the aisle for the second time to marry another rapper, Surge Knight. However, their marriage turned out to be invalid as he was still married to another woman then.
Following their union, the Death Row Records founder and the singer welcomed a daughter, Bailei, in 2002, making Marcel an older brother. Marcen continues to have a good relationship with his sister.
Andre Young Jr. was born right before his brother, Marcel, to parents Dr. Dre and Jenita Porter. Sadly, he died in 2008 at the age of 20 from an apparent drug overdose.
THE COMPLICATED RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MARCEL YOUNG'S PARENTS
Marcel's young parents met in the music industry. Dr. Dre became the sole producer of the same label she signed and working together paved the way for a romantic relationship. When Marcel was born, he became the fourth child of his father, while his then 24-year-old mom tried to raise him well.
Because of his parents' different priorities, Dr. Dre focused on his career, and Michel'le focused on their child, the pair drifted apart. At one point, their heated arguments turned into physical fights, nearly causing Michel'le's life.
Michel'le's life, both ups, and downs, was turned into a biopic, "Surviving Compton: Dr. Dre, Suge & Michel'le." The film detailed her life with Dr. Dre and her love story with Suge Knight, which also ended in an alleged abusive relationship.
MARCEL YOUNG HAS MANY SIBLINGS
Of all his siblings, Marcel has a close relationship with Bailei. He said during an interview, "You know, we play, and I take her to the movies."
Marcel has eight other siblings from his father's side, including his eldest brother, Curtis, who Dr. Dre shares with Cassandra Joy Greene. He was 16, and she was 15 when they welcomed their first child. Like their father, Curtis became a rapper.
Marcel's eldest sister, LaTanya Young, came in 1983, during Dr. Dre's relationship with Lisa Johnson. Not much is known about her except her financial struggles in 2021.
Dr. Dre and Lisa also share children, LaToya and Ashley. LaToya, born in 1984, lives a private life. The same can be said about Ashley, born in 1985.
During Dr. Dre's relationship with Lisa, he fathered another daughter, Tyra, in 1984, with an unknown woman. Of all his kids, she remains the most private.
Andre Young Jr. was born right before his brother, Marcel, to parents Dr. Dre and Jenita Porter. Sadly, he died in 2008 at the age of 20 from an apparent drug overdose. Marcel's youngest brother is musician Truice, whom his father had with Nicole Young. They also share a daughter, Truly, born in 2001.
WHAT IS KNOWN ABOUT MARCEL YOUNG'S ADULTHOOD
Not much is known about Marcel as he is a very private person. He does not give interviews nor has active social media accounts. Most of his online posts come from his mother's account.
The last time Marcel made a public appearance was in 2015 or 2016, when he appeared on his mother's program, "On Watch Beyond the Headlines: Michel'le." During the show, Marcel shared about his relationship with his family.
Marcel also last appeared on his mother's Instagram account in 2016, where a photo of him was posted. Although it is not publicly mentioned, Marcel undoubtedly continues to talk to his mother often,
It has been years since Michel'le's troubling days, and she has not spoken to Dr. Dre and Surge Knight in years, partly because Knight is facing a 28-year prison sentence. With her ex-partner's gone, Michel'le has taken the time to heal her scars and raise her children.
She made sure to keep her daughter out of the public eye, especially with how controversy keeps following their family.
