It's best to learn from others' mistakes other than one's own. After "The Godfather" actor Al Pacino's dad walked out on him as a baby, he suffered abandonment issues and vowed to be present and responsible for his future kids.

The actor was born Alfred James Pacino to his mother, Rose, and a mason father, Salvatore. At two, his father walked out on the family after he and Rose divorced, leaving him in the care of their mother and maternal grandparents.

Raising Pacino without his father was no easy fit for Rose, and money was always short. She made up by taking Pacino to the movies, which planted the love for theatre in the little boy's heart. At four, he would act out parts he had seen in movies, even perfectly emulating the character of Ray Milland in "The Lost Weekend."

Pacino's teenage years were borderline erratic, and he would occasionally get involved in fights. Teachers considered him a troublemaker and concluded he needed a dad to keep him in check as his troubles stemmed from growing up without a father.

At 16, Pacino left his home in the East Harlem neighborhood of Upper Manhattan, New York City, for Greenwich Village and took on a roster of penniless jobs to support his mother, whose health was failing.

While there, he also joined a theatre group, performing drama and comedy bits in warehouses and cafes. He reminisces of the time:

"It saved my life, really. The theatre became my family for many years, and it's still my family."

Eventually, his small beginnings in theatre transitioned into more prominent roles, and he gained success in the industry, becoming one of the most influential actors of the 20th century. Many more opportunities opened up, and with it, the chance to date stunning women who made him a dad to three beautiful children.

Even though the "Sea of Love" star remains unmarried, Pacino is a family man and a doting dad to his three children. He had his first child, daughter Julie Marie Pacino with his acting coach Jan Tarrant, who he dated for around a year in the '80s.

Of the actor's three children, Julie is the only one who has taken after her father and is in the entertainment industry. She prides herself in being a writer, director, and producer with back-to-back film projects.

Her credits include an 11-minute film called "Hard Work." She also launched a production company Tiny Apple in 2020, whose first project is the series "Harmony in Gold," which Julie wrote and created alongside the producers of the abstrusely dystopian hit series "Black Mirror."

Julie has always been close to her dad but prefers to pave the way for herself regarding her work. She is destined for great things in the industry and does not try to piggyback on her father's success.

After a failed romance with Tarrant in the '80s, Pacino got involved with "First Love" actress Beverly D'Angelo in the late '90s. D'Angelo had always pictured having kids in a family setting, but when Pacino asked her to be the mother of his kids, she jumped at the chance after only three months of dating.

While there were no plans to exchange vows, they knew they wanted children. They had their twins, Olivia Rose and Anton James, on January 25, 2001, when D'Angelo was 49.

Sadly, their romantic rendezvous ended two years later, and the two fought for a bit over custody of their babies before they finally arrived at a consensus. Now, they raise their kids amicably.

Even with celebrity parents, Olivia has grown up away from the limelight. However, she has been active on social media lately and loves posting stunning selfies, travel photos, and capturing beautiful moments with friends.

She also streams live on Twitch.com, where she plays the video game "Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare." Like his sister, Anton James has kept away from the limelight but has made a few red carpet appearances alongside his dad. He remains pretty mysterious as he is not currently active on social media.

Despite the "Heat" actor's aversion to marriage, he is a responsible and supportive dad to his children. His choice to not marry their mothers has never factored in how he raises his kids.

Owing to his father abandoning his young family, the actor vowed to do things differently when he became a dad, a promise he has followed through to the letter. He consciously and intentionally raises his children as a present dad.

"Having children has helped a lot. I consciously knew that I didn't want to be like my dad. I wanted to be there. I have three children. I'm responsible to them. I'm a part of their life. When I'm not, it's upsetting to them and to me." He revealed.

When his twins were younger, his house was a baby haven, overflowing with swimming gear, games, balls, electric guitars, rackets, and other toys. Despite a busy Hollywood career, the actor ensures to spend almost all his weekends with his kids and admits that fatherhood has changed him in a good way. He says:

"Before I had my three, I'd walk around in my own head, not noticing anything. Acting used to be everything; now, because of them, it's just a small part."

While he continues to work, he makes sure to make time for his kids, even if it takes him having to cross the country coast to coast all the time. He also acknowledged how hard it was for his kids to have him as a dad and spend time with him because people would recognize him everywhere he went.

Pacino shared that he has not been in a grocery store for years because he discovered how hard it was for his kids to go out publicly with him. He admits that it is a luxury for him to go somewhere and not be recognized.
