Princess Diana knew her husband, Prince Charles, was having an affair. According to her former security guard, one fateful day made her realize that their marriage was in trouble after walking in on him and his mistress.

Diana Spencer wed the Prince of Wales, Charles, in 1981 at St. Paul's Cathedral. They welcomed two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry.

However, despite walking down the aisle in a fairy-tale-like wedding, the royal couple's marriage became tumultuous.

News broke that the future king of England was cheating on his wife with Camilla Parker Bowles. The pair initially dated in the 1970s.

According to biographer Penny Junor in her book, "The Duchess: Camilla Parker Bowles and the Love Affair That Rocked the Crown," Diana did have friendly relations with Camilla as the princess was not aware of her past relationship with Prince Charles.

The prince allegedly tried to hide it by presenting Camilla as merely a friend. However, that did not remain a secret for long,

Junor:

"Instead of explaining to Diana at the outset that Camilla was an old friend, he had presented her as nothing more than a friend."

"He came clean after the engagement, admitting that Camilla had been one of his most intimate friends, but reassured Diana that from now on, there would be no other women," the author wrote.

Still, Princess Diana became guarded, and according to a biography by Andy Morton, she reportedly discovered that her husband and Camilla still exchanged gifts.

The said presents included a gold chain bracelet presented before the wedding with the initials "G" and "F" which stood for "Gladys" and "Fred" - their nicknames for each other.

The Princess of Wales also found out that her spouse had sent a bouquet to Camilla when she was sick and had used that nickname. Princess Diana's suspicions grew over the years, and she did something about it.

Tension heightened when the Princes of Wales found her husband and his mistress together while at an event. Diana's former police protection officer, Ken Wharfe, appeared on the British breakfast television show "Lorraine" in August 2022 and revealed details about the said occasion.

Wharfe disclosed that the royal couple got invited to Camilla's sister's party, and they went. However, people were surprised the princess even made it to the event because she had no close relations with the guests.

Most attendees were loyal friends of Camilla and Prince Charles. Wharfe recalled what occurred once they arrived at the party:

"When we arrived there, it was almost like freezing-framing a scene in a movie because there was this surprise that Diana had even arrived."

An hour into the event, the princess called Wharfe, who was in the kitchen, and he went out to her. She asked him to come with her because "I can't find my husband or Camilla."

Wharfe said Princess Diana was in "distress," but they eventually found the secret lovers sitting in the basement having a chat.

Upon seeing them, he said he was unsure how the People's Princess would react. Still, she managed to confidently walk up to the pair and alerted them that she was well aware of their love affair:

"Diana just went up to both of them and said to Camilla, 'Please don't treat me like an idiot. I know what's going on.'"

Camilla's response threw off Wharfe, who admitted that to this day, he was still perplexed by it. She asked Princess Diana what more she wanted, seeing she had everything already:

"You've got everything you ever wanted. You've got all the men in the world to fall in love with you, and you've got two beautiful children. What more do you want?"

"I want my husband," the princess bluntly retorted. According to Wharfe, that was "the defining moment in their life because I think at that point, this was an indicator the end was nigh," he said.

Indeed, Wharfe was right. Princess Diana and Prince Charles eventually separated in 1992. During the princess' infamous interview with British journalist Martin Bashir, she

that there was a third party in her marriage:

"Well, there were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded."

She tried to save their union by seducing the heir to the throne. Howard Hodgson revealed in his book 2007 book, "Charles: The Man who will be King" that when her "tantrums" did not work, the princess resorted to "seduction."

Diana later told royal author Lady Colin Campbell what she planned on doing and how the idea backfired. The Princess of Wales went into her husband's dressing room wearing an Eau-de-Nil silk nightdress that was low cut at the front.

She sat down on the bed beside him and talked to him while touching his fingers. "He winced when my fingers brushed past his. I've never been so hurt in my life," said the princess.

In January 1992, the Prince and Princess of Wales agreed that their marriage was not working and decided to separate.

In addition to their union falling apart, Princess Diana felt like an outcast within the Royal Family. She became depressed by the continual criticism that she received.

Meanwhile, Prince Charles began a full-blown affair with Camilla, which caused a scandal in the Royal Family. At the time, Camilla, now Duchess of Cornwall, was married to Andrew Parker Bowles, whom she wed in 1973 and had two children.

However, the pair divorced in 1995 amid her affair with Prince Charles. Meanwhile, the Prince and Princess of Wales decided to end their marriage for good when they finalized their divorce in 1996.

Sadly, a year later, Princess Diana tragically died in a car accident in Paris on August 31, 1997. She passed away along with her lover, Dodi Fayed, and driver Henri Paul in an incident that shook the world.
