Ron Howard Is 'Best' & 'Sweetest Grandpa' — His 6 Grandkids 'Worship' Him & His High School Sweetheart Wife

Ron Howard is the embodiment of Hollywood success. Besides a thriving career, he has also raised a beautiful family of four kids with his wife, Cheryl. But that's only the tip of the iceberg; he is also the "sweetest" grandpa to his six grandkids, who he loves to bits.

There has never been anyone else for Oscar-winning director Ron Howard. He met his wife of over four decades, Cheryl, when both were students at John Burroughs High School, California. The chemistry was undeniable from the moment they met. He reminisces:

“I met her, and there was never anybody else.”

They fell in love and have been together since. The pair credits communication as the secret to staying married that long and says that as a couple, learning to have difficult conversations in constructive ways goes a long way.

The pair celebrated their 47th anniversary, a milestone many people in that kind of business perceive as wishful thinking. The actor does not take his marital success for granted and never fails to compliment the one that made it all possible, his wife. He doted on her saying:

“She’s unbelievably supportive and always has been. Our compatibility has endured through all kinds of experiences.”

In their nearly five decades of being together, the pair have welcomed four children, Bryce Dallas Howard, Paige Howard, Jocelyn Howard, and Reed Howard, with two following in their father's footsteps.

Bryce is an actor and a director, having earned her big break appearing on "The Village" in 2004. Paige has also followed in her father and sister's footsteps with acting credits in "90210" and "Arrested Development."

On the other hand, Jocelyn has managed to stay out of the spotlight, instead preferring a more laid-back and quiet life. Their last born, Reed, is a Youtuber and golfer. The "Inferno" actor and his wife are proud parents, and as Howard would say of fatherhood:

“I feel really privileged to have been the beneficiary of having, like, a great dad, you know?”

In addition to successfully raising four bright and beautiful kids, Howard and Cheryl also hold a title that is dear to their hearts. They are grandparents to six grandchildren and couldn't be prouder.

Who Are Ron Howard’s Grandkids?

Howard first became a grandpa when his first daughter Bryce married Seth Gabel in 2006 and became a mom to their first child, son Theodore, the following year. They had their second baby, daughter Beatrice, in 2012.

Born in 2006, Theodore is currently in his teenage years, and even though he is yet to get started careerwise, he enjoys seeing his mother's work and has joined her on set in the past. He is also a big fan of "Jurassic World." Seth often posts photos of him and his son hanging out.

It would appear that Bryce's career has impacted her kids immensely as Beatrice is also a big fan of "Jurassic Park: Fallen Kingdom."

The mother of two revealed how she experienced life's most thrilling privileges watching her daughter come into herself and blossom into a kind, witty and loving girl.

Howard's only son, Reed, is also a father of one daughter, who he shares with his wife, Ashely. The proud father often shares photos of his baby on social media and recently posted a video of his 3-year-old jumping into the water and swimming to the edge, an undoubtedly proud moment for him.

In 2019, People magazine reported Howard to be a grandfather of five. Given that Paige, who has always been open about her life on social media, only recently got married and has no kids, it would only mean that, as of 2019, the "Parenthood" actor's other daughter, Jocelyn was a mother of two children.

In January 2020, Howard shared a rare photo of him and Jocelyn's children on his Instagram page, as they enjoyed a cartoon on the TV, with their backs to the camera.

Jocelyn appears to have added to her brood, and that April, Howard posted a photo of a newborn baby, Elodie Vivian, who he wrote was his granddaughter. In the Instagram post dated April 12, 2020, Howard wrote:

"A new granddaughter! Welcome to the world, Elodie Vivian was born April 4. 7lbs, 4oz."

He then went on to thank the Yale Midwives and the caring team at the Center for Women's Health and Midwifery in New Haven for being on the frontline of protecting mothers and babies. Elodie Vivian is Howard and Cheryl's sixth grandchild.

Ron Howard’s Grandkids Worship Him and His Wife

Howard and Cheryl may have been loving and caring parents to their four children, but they stepped it up a notch once they became grandparents. According to Bryce, her father has got the role of granddad down.

"The Help" actress praised her dad's relationship with his grandchildren, saying he was the best and sweetest grandpa ever. She recalled how one day, she'd walked in on her dad showing Theo episodes of "The Andy Griffith Show," in which he played Opie Taylor. She shared:

“Theo seems to have inherited [my dad’s] complexly imaginative and artistic mind, and Beatrice is gregarious and a natural leader (at 3 years old!), just like him.”

The actress says her kids “worship” their grandparents, and Bryce could not be happier that her children are experiencing the same love she received growing up. She bawled:

“He’s the sweetest granddad, and I love that both of my children have a unique and special relationship with him.”

In addition to showering his grandchildren with love, Howard has also passed on his artistic inclination to Theo. Bryce says that her son had gone to some of her dad's sets and been among creatives, which constantly inspires him to become one.

Howard may boast of a successful Hollywood story, having started his career as a child star, but he is also proud of the family he has raised with Cheryl. From the bond he shares with his kids and grandkids, they evidently have nothing but love for him, and it is safe to say that he has achieved it all.
