King Reportedly Wants to Be Present Granddad to Harry's Kids after Book Claimed He Questioned Baby's Skin Tone
-
As much as King Charles and his son Harry's strained relationship hurts him, he wants to be a present grandfather to his grandkids, Archie and Lilibet.

Years back, Harry was shocked when he learned that there were “apprehensions” about how dark his babies with Meghan might be, a book now claims.

How is Charles’ relationship with his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet?
Prince Harry and his family have been feuding for years now. According to reports in the past few years, Harry and his father and brother, Prince William, are not as close as they used to be, a rift that has only widened since Harry stepped down from his royal roles in 2020.
Still, the death of his grandmother, the Queen, appears to have brought the family together, with Harry and his father, King Charles III, extending olive branches to each other during her funeral.

As he paid tribute to the Queen on the Archewell website, Harry noted that he honored his father in his new role as the King. The gesture did not go unnoticed as King Charles also had his moment to express love for his son.
During his first public statement as King, King Charles sent love to Harry and his daughter-in-law Meghan Markle as they "build their lives overseas".
According to reports by Vanity Fair, those close to the new King say that he never once stopped trying to mend the broken relationship between him and his youngest son.
Following the Queen's death, King Charles ensured that Harry and Meghan were by the family's side at the funeral. A friend of King Charles told the publication:
"He is hurt and disappointed, but he has always said his love for Harry is unconditional."

The friend also revealed that King Charles was more than thrilled to take up his role as a loving granddad to Harry and Meghan's children, Archie, 3, and Lilibet, 1.
Ironical as it may sound, the King's wishes come after a book claimed that he had earlier questioned the skin tone of his grandchildren.
Charles’ Questions Were Innocent, Book Claims
According to "Brothers and Wives: Inside the Private Lives of William, Kate, Harry, and Meghan" by American Journalist Christopher Andersen, King Charles and his wife Camila had speculations about their grandchildren's skin tones long before they were born.

Based on a conversation in 2017 between the two, Anderson claims that Charles had wondered out aloud during breakfast at Clarence House: "I wonder what the children will look like?" with Camila answering:
“Well, absolutely gorgeous, I’m certain.”

She mused over how marvelous-looking Harry and Meghan were, noting that there was no doubt whatsoever that they would have gorgeous children. However, she had misunderstood her husband's question, and the then-prince, noticing the same, inquired:
“I mean what do you think their children’s complexion might be?”
"We'll find out eventually, I suppose, won't we?" Camila answered curtly, incredibly aware of the staff members in the room and well within earshot of their conversation.

Still, the book claims that Charles' speculations were innocent, and the two were just caught up in a moment of wonderment, curious about how children born of a redhead father and a biracial mother would look.
Unbeknownst to Harry and then-girlfriend Meghan, who were still enjoying the newness of their romance, a similar less-innocent conversation was taking place within the Buckingham Palace halls.
The "Men in Black" and other staff members had voiced their concerns about how the royal family would look to the rest of the world once Harry and Meghan began having babies.

Shortly after, the claims reached Harry that there had been "apprehensions" about how dark his and Meghan's baby might be. Royal staffers felt that if their baby was "too brown" he might look "strange".
The issue became a heated topic of discussion between Harry and his father, with Harry speaking up about it years later:
"At the time, it was awkward. I was shocked."

Following the claims, his father said that his son was acting overly sensitive about the matter, and when Harry sought solace from his brother, Prince William, William stood up for their father.
A former staff member at Clarence House defended the senior royals saying while they were not racist, some of the staffers, including advisors, bureaucrats, and couriers that kept the Firm running, unfortunately, were. He said:
"Most are not racist, but some are, and, unfortunately, at rather high levels. Its a sad reality, but they are more of a reflection of society as a whole."

A spokesman for the then-prince Charles denied the claims about the speculations surrounding Harry and Meghan's children's skin tones. He told The Post, as Page Six reports:
"This is fiction and not worth further comment."
King Charles as a Grandfather
King Charles has always expressed his desire to be a granddad, a wish he has always held since his oldest son William married Kate Middleton in 2011. His love for his grandbabies is in no way strange, considering his love for his sons.

And when he learned he would be a grandfather for the first time when Kate was pregnant with their first baby, Prince George, he was thrilled and expressed the same saying:
"I'm thrilled, marvelous. It's a very nice thought of grandfatherhood in my old age, if I may say so, so that's splendid."
While King Charles has become a grandfather several more times after that, he could not contain his joy when he met Archie and Lilibet recently. The King was reported "absolutely thrilled" to meet his youngest grandkids during Harry and Meghan's visit to the UK in June.
A source disclosed how emotional the meeting between him and his grandchildren had been, adding that Camila was equally excited. He said it was also "very very special" for King Charles to spend time with Archie, adding:
"He hadn't met Lili, his granddaughter, and so to meet her was very emotional a very very wonderful thing."

Based on how the grandfather-grandkids meeting went, it is safe to say that King Charles is a doting grandfather to Harry and Meghan's children, as he is to his sons.
