Being born into a royal family is a privilege quite different from joining one in adulthood. Camilla, the Queen Consort, Kate Middleton, and Meghan Markle, understand that all too well.

Camilla became a part of the royal family after she and King Charles, then-Prince, started courting, and when she eventually married him on April 9, 2005.

She understood only too well how difficult it is to be accepted into the family and was hell-bent on helping any newcomers find their footing. After Prince William wed Kate in 2011, Camilla was only too happy to help her familiarize herself with the protocols, customs, and limitations of royal life.

She and Kate went out for a girls-only lunch a few weeks before Kate walked down the aisle. They went out again accompanied by Kate's sister Pippa and Laura, Camilla's daughter. One of Kate's friends would say:

"Camilla's exceptional warmth has really touched Catherine."

Kate was grateful for how well her mother-in-law received her. However, the situation was different for Meghan. Camilla was equally warm towards Meghan, and her husband loved that they had a mutual love for the arts and theatre.

Camilla figured that since she had been through the wringer herself, after being dragged through the mud by the press, and so she felt she was the right person to help Meghan adjust.

Just like she had done with Kate, Camilla spent plenty of time with Meghan, going out for lunches and offering advice about handling the pressure that came with her new family. Like most parents, Camilla supported her new daughter-in-law and was happy to mentor her. A source said at the time:

Meghan, however, appeared bored and was unresponsive to Camilla's help. According to The Telegraph, Meghan wanted to do things her way, resulting in Camilla's advice landing on deaf ears. From the outside, it seemed that Megan did not want to be accepted into the family from the first time she met them.

Meghan Reportedly Wanted the Firm to Reject Her

When Harry and Meghan sat with Oprah and re-lived the supposedly hellish life they had had to endure as working royals, members and staff at the palace were shocked.

In Meghan's account, no one at the palace had been willing to help her during her greatest hour of need, and she even considered taking her life the year after she married Harry.

Fans sympathized with the duchess for having had no one to come to her rescue. However, Palace staff claim they offered plenty of help to Meghan, and she always turned them down.

Harry and Meghan reportedly had a team at their disposal to help with any problem they were facing. Other palace aides have also confessed to handling a string of PR disasters if only to maintain Harry and Meghan in a good light.

However, all their efforts to help appear to have been unappreciated. A new book, "Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind the Crown" by Royal Author Valentine Low, claims that the accusations by Meghan were all part of a bigger and sinister plan.

Low says Meghan rejected all help from palace aides as a "deliberate strategy" to facilitate "her departure from the Royal Family." A staff member supported the claims saying that Meghan chose not to be happy, instead preferring to be "rejected" by the Firm.

Low details the one time that Meghan went to the Palace HR, who, after listening to her complaints sent her on her way. He says HR only dealt with staff and not royal family members.

Low believes Meghan did that deliberately, and despite knowing that HR could not accord her the help she needed, she still sought his help, which Low says was a way of Meghan laying evidence for use after she exited the royal life.

Another staff member claims that the Firm would be judged by Meghan's happiness, hence, everyone strived to make her happy. Sadly, they say, that's not what Meghan wanted:

"She wanted to be rejected because she was obsessed with that narrative from day one."

According to some staff, they were always aware of their need for evidence of their duty of care towards Harry and Meghan that would help them prove they had attempted to help and accommodate the Sussex if anything went wrong.

Low believes that Meghan turned down all help so she would accuse the Firm of not helping her when she needed the help.

Meghan’s Relationship with the Royals Keeps Tanking

Meghan's relationship with other royal family members had always been strenuous. However, things got worse after the Susexes failed to attend the memorial service for Prince Philip in March 2021.

Reports at the time claimed they did not attend the memorial because Harry was worried about his family's security arrangements in the UK. Weeks after the memorial service, then-Prince Charles invited Harry and Meghan for tea as they were en route to the Hague for the Invictus Games event.

While Harry and Meghan did show up, the meeting did not go as expected. A family friend told royal author Katie Nicholl that the meeting had been "awkward" and only lasted 15 minutes as Harry and Meghan had been late.

Then-Prince Charles also had other commitments and was headed out to the Royal Maundy Service at Windsor Castle, where he would be standing in for the Queen for the first time.

The source claimed that Harry hugged his father and Camila and had the best intentions, even suggesting they bring in a mediator to help them sort out their issues. According to the source, the suggestion baffled Charles and Camilla spluttered into her tea from bemusement.

While Camilla dismissed the suggestion as ridiculous and said they were family and would sort their issues between themselves, the moment left both sides unsure about the possibility of any future reconciliation.
