Man Returns From Army & Finds Out His Girlfriend Is Getting Married, He Attends Wedding to Say Toast – Story of the Day
A soldier returns from deployment to discover that the woman he wanted to marry is a cheat and a liar. He decides to teach her a lesson on her wedding day.
Mark couldn't wait to get home. He missed his girlfriend Fay, and he'd spent a lot of time thinking about her and their relationship over the last six months.
He loved her, she was the woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with, and he was prepared to take the leap. Mark was going to propose to the woman he'd been dating for the last three years.

On impulse, on his way home from the airport, he had the driver drop him off at a prestigious jeweler. He picked out a beautiful pink diamond. If he was going to propose, he was doing it in style!
Mark couldn't wait to see Fay, to drop to his knees and ask her to be his wife, but he was in for a bitter surprise. When he arrived at the house the two had been sharing for three years, no one was home.
"Fay?" he called. "Honey, I'm home!" There was no answer. The house was silent and empty. Mark looked around the sitting room. It had a strange, abandoned feel, and everywhere there were layers of dust.
"You're not the woman I thought you were!"
How long had Fay been gone? He saw that his post box was overflowing, and some of it was time-stamped from the time of his deployment. "What is going on?" he asked himself.
Just three days before, he'd spoken to Fay, and she'd eagerly professed her love for him. Or had she? Now that Mark looked back, had she been less than enthusiastic?

He'd been the one who'd said he loved her, that she was everything to him...and she'd replied: "Sure, baby!" Mark felt a sharp pain claw at his heart. He'd seen and heard what he wanted.
The truth was that Fay had been increasingly cold and vague, and their phone calls less frequent over the last three months. But she'd been gone for SIX months...
What had happened? Why had Fay continued to pretend she loved him faithfully for three months after she'd left? Now that Mark thought about it, she'd only recently started to pull away from him.
Determined to discover the truth before confronting Fay, Mark decided to ambush her best friend, Laura. That afternoon, he waited outside Laura's office, and when she came out he stepped forward.
"Hi Laura," he said. "How are you doing?"

Laura turned around, and when she saw Mark, she paled. "Ma-Ma-Mark!" she stammered. "I...I didn't know you were back!"
"I'm back," Mark said quietly. "And confused, Laura. Do you know where Fay is?"
"Fay?" asked Laura blushing.
"Fay," Mark repeated sarcastically. "You know, your best friend? My girlfriend for the last three years?"
Laura looked down at her feet. "I'm sorry, Mark," she said quietly. "She should have told you a long time ago...She's in another relationship. They're getting married next week."
"How long ago?" asked Mark, pushing through the anger and the pain. "How long has she been seeing this guy?"

Laura bit her lips, looked Mark in the eye, and said: "She met Nick two years ago. They started dating, and when you were deployed, she moved in with him."
"I see," Mark said. "Two years. So every time I was deployed...Why didn't she tell me? Why continue the fiction?"
"She..." Laura looked embarrassed. "She wanted to be sure before she broke up with you. His family doesn't like her. She thought they might, you know, persuade him to call it off."
"I think she's still worried. I told her it was unfair to you and to Nick. He's a nice, decent guy, and he loves her."
"So am I! What has he got that I haven't?" asked Mark bitterly. "Why is he Prince Charming and I'm Plan B?"
"Money," Laura said bluntly. "His family is very rich, and Fay...She grew up dirt-poor, Mark, you know that. She craves security. I understand, and I'm sorry for her..."

"I don't," Mark said. "I've just been promoted to Captain, Laura. I earn a good living, I have a nice home. To me, Fay is greedy, not needy!"
Laura bowed her head and admitted that Mark was right. "Where is the wedding going to be?" Mark asked. At first, Laura wouldn't tell him, but he persuaded her.
On Fay's wedding day, there was an unexpected guest at the reception. When the best man got up to toast the bride and groom, someone else stepped up and relieved him of the microphone.
"Thanks. buddy!" Mark told the best man with a charming smile. "If you don't mind, I'd like to make the first toast!" Mark was wearing a beautifully tailored tux and looked very handsome.
Fay, who'd been busy chatting to her new husband, looked up when she heard a familiar voice, and gasped when she recognized the man holding the mike.
"Hello, Fay," Mark said. "I've come to wish you all the happiness you deserve. You look so beautiful, as lovely as I'd imagined, only I thought I'd be the man by your side."

Mark pulled out the pink diamond ring. "I thought you'd be wearing THIS. I came home two weeks ago with this ring, after three years of living together. I was going to propose..."
Nick turned to Fay and asked: "Who is this? What's going on?"
Fay jumped to her feet. "Liar!" she screamed. "This man is a liar! "
"A liar?" asked Mark sadly. "No, Fay. You are the liar. You lied to me, and you lied to the man you married."
"He's a stalker," Fay blustered, turning to Nick. "He's obsessed with me, he won't leave me alone, and now he wants to ruin our wedding. Ask Laura! She'll tell you!"
Fay turned to where Laura sat in a pretty pink dress with the other bridesmaids. "Tell Nick, Laura," she demanded. "Tell him how Mark won't leave me alone!"

But Laura looked at Fay sadly and shook her head. Nick was shocked. "Fay, you were living with someone else all the time we were dating?" he asked. "Is that why you never invited me home? I don't understand!"
"Let me explain," Mark said. "You were the better prospect, but Fay was afraid you might not propose. She kept me on the hook, so to speak. I was Plan B. I was always being deployed, so it was easy for her to deceive us both."
"Our Fay likes money and the good life, and you're the one who's going to provide that now. Good luck!" Mark handed the mike to the stunned best man and stepped down.
He started walking out, but a voice called him: "Mark, wait! I'm coming with you!" It was Laura. She took his arm and walked out with him. All around the hall, people were exchanging shocked whispers.
At the main table, an interesting conversation was taking place. "I'm asking for an annulment," Nick said coldly. "You're not the woman I thought you were!"
"You can't do that!" screamed Fay. "I'll sue you for everything you've got!"

"I'm afraid not," Nick said. "You signed a prenup, Fay, you get nothing if the marriage ends before ten years. It won't last even ten hours!"
Greedy, cheating Fay lost Nick, and Mark and found herself forced to earn a living until she managed to hook her next target. As for Mark, he started dating Laura, and when he proposed, he had no doubts about her feelings.
