Canelo Álvarez's Children Keep Him 'Grounded' – Meet the Boxer's Four Kids
Canelo Álvarez has been described as one of the greatest boxers to grace the sport. The Mexican athlete came from humble beginnings and has since amassed a fortune of millions, but it is Canelo Álvarez's four children that keep him "grounded."
Born in 1990, Álvarez was 13 years old when he began training as a boxer; the fighter grew up watching his older brother, Rigoberto, box and drew great inspiration from him. On October 29, 2005, Álvarez made his debut in the boxing ring; by 17, he was a pro fighter. It was also around the same time he had his first child.
The Mexican fighter has since welcomed four children; each has a different mother, and Álvarez has spoken about keeping in contact with his children while some live with him and others with their mothers. The doting father often shares pictures of his children on social media, although he has left one of his daughters out of the limelight due to her mother's past.
Emily Cinnamon
Álvarez and Karen Beltran welcomed their child together when he was still a teenager in 2007; Álvarez and Beltran soon split after Emily was born, but that did not stop him from being in his daughter's life. Emily often accompanied her father to boxing matches and events, and on her graduation day, her parents gathered to celebrate the special moment.
Emily stood between her parents in a black and blue graduation gown as the family smiled and posed for a picture; Beltran took to social media to celebrate how proud she was of her daughter and wrote:
"The world is yours. You will achieve everything you set your mind to. Never stop believing in yourself."
Beltran and Álvarez chose to name their daughter Canela, which means cinnamon when translated into English, after the boxer's nickname. Emily and her father have a close relationship. In May, she posted a picture of the father/daughter duo and wrote to her father, "I promise that I'll always be by your side, through good and bad times."
Mía Ener
Álvarez's second child is Mía Ener, whom he shares with Valeria Quiroz. Mía's date of birth is unknown, but Álvarez and Quiroz dated in 2014. The exes chose to keep their daughter out of the spotlight as Quiroz was rumored to have had a relationship with druglord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman.
Quiroz was said to be a teenager when her relationship with Guzman began, and there was reportedly footage of the relationship. To protect Mía, she is rarely seen publicly; she lives in Los Angeles with her mother, and Álvarez said about his children who do not live with him:
"My children who don't live with me, Adiel and Emily, well, I try to be there for them. Sometimes it's a little hard to be like I am with María because she lives with me, but as a father, I try to give the best of me."
María Fernanda
In 2017, Álvarez's third daughter was born. Álvarez and María's mother, Fernanda Gomez, decided to get back together after parting ways when María was born and tied the knot in 2021 at a cathedral in Mexico.
In 2021, Álvarez appeared on "Red Table Talk: The Estefans" and revealed that despite being a successful boxer, he did not want his daughters to follow in his footsteps. He spoke about his work-life balance, and if he could have his way, he wouldn't want his daughters to become boxers as the sport was "tough."
However, Álvarez revealed that should they decide to follow in their father's footsteps, he would support them. His daughter already has him wrapped around her finger, as the boxer said:
"I let [my daughter] paint my nails, put on eyeshadow, she puts bows on me, and she makes a mess of it. But what can I do?"
Saúl Adiel
Álvarez's youngest child is his son, Saúl Adiel. Saúl has his father's first name and was born in September 2019 to Nelda Sepulveda. And although Álvarez doesn't want his daughters to box, he started Saúl quite early in the boxing ring.
In 2022, Michael Benson shared a video of Saúl and his father practicing, writing, "Canelo Álvarez starting to teach his three-year-old son how to box."
Canelo Álvarez's Children Keep Him Grounded
Like a fellow famous boxer Anthony Joshua, Álvarez is a doting dad and added that he always thought about his children first:
"My kids will be the ones that keep me grounded. I always think about them before I make any decisions."
In 2018, Álvarez inked a £280million deal for eleven fights and said the mentality he was born with led to his success and that he understood the impact his career could have on his children's lives.
