New York Boy Dies after Going to Bed Just 2 Days before Birthday: 'Happy Birthday in Heaven Sweet Angel'

A family adored their little boy, and he meant the world to them. They had big plans to celebrate his upcoming birthday, but their hopes were thwarted when a nightmarish reality turned their lives upside down.

Luke Meyveci was the apple of his mom and dad's eye, and the adorable boy from New York managed to capture everyone's attention. Like many kids, he loved Spiderman, playing with cars, and going to school.

A long and happy future was ready and waiting for him. Thanks to his beautiful eyes, long lashes, and unique ability to light up any room he walked into, Luke left a lasting impact on many people. Little did any of them know their time together was limited.

He Was a Special Little Boy

Sweet little Luke was a wonderful brother to his sister, Amelia, and the siblings had many years of playing together ahead of them. Everyone sang Luke's praises, and his parents likely dreamed about his bright future.

Mona Litt, Luke's assistant teacher at Pumpkin Patch, described him as a happy child with an "infectious smile and sparkling eyes." She shared that he exchanged silly faces with her and enjoyed reading books while many other kids napped.

One of Luke's other teachers, Jessica Litt, echoed these sentiments. She spent many days with Luke and called him "the sweetest boy."

Instead of getting ready to enjoy Luke's third birthday, the family made other plans—plans they never saw coming.

A Tragic and Unfair End

Neither Jessica nor Mona knew their time for making memories with the special boy would come to an unfair and unexpected end—but it did.

October 14, 2022, started like any other ordinary Friday, but the Meyveci family was about to face one of life's most painful tragedies. Luke passed away two days before his third birthday due to heart surgery complications.

Michelle Barnathan shared a message on behalf of the family and noted that their "hearts and lives were absolutely shattered and destroyed." Her post continued:

"He went to sleep and peacefully went to Heaven in our arms. Never in our worst nightmares were we ever expecting this to happen to our baby."

He Left a Legacy of Love

Instead of getting ready to enjoy Luke's third birthday, the family made other plans—plans they never saw coming. It was time to bid their special boy farewell. Amid the heartbreak, they vowed to celebrate and cherish his life forever.

He left a lasting legacy of love and joy in his short time on earth. Michelle shared a heartfelt message for little Luke online:

"There are no words to describe how much you will be missed. I am forever grateful to be one of the lucky ones that got to love and be loved by you. Happy birthday, my sweet angel, I love you."

By October 18, more than $42,000 had been donated to assist the grieving family. Luke would always be their sunshine boy, and they were grateful for any help while they tried to navigate life without him.

A Birthday Tribute from His Mother

On October 16, Ashley Di Cairano Meyveci shared an emotional message for her son. She wished him a happy birthday and wrote:

"We will celebrate you today and every day. You’re the most beautiful boy and it’s been incredible to see you grow up these last [three] years."

Ashley found comfort in knowing her precious son was blowing out candles with his grandparents as they held him tightly in heaven. While she desperately longed to give her son a hug, she noted that her heart would always hold him.

Her pain was evident in the heartbreaking birthday tribute, and the four photos she shared captured Luke's eternal essence—he was cheerful and happy.
