In 2022, Dr. Phil McGraw and his wife, Robin, celebrated their 46th anniversary in their unique home after falling in love at first sight. The couple used to be poor, and when they finally had money, they previously owned a "weird" house with bizarre decor.

On August 14, 2022, Robin McGraw took to her Instagram account to share the news that she and her husband, Dr. Phil McGraw, were celebrating close to 50 years of marriage! In the post, she included several images showing her posing in their home.

The photos revealed some of the gifts that Robin received from her husband to mark the auspicious day. While posing by the island of her kitchen, the star's wife was seen standing in front of two large bouquets of flowers and a white cake.

The flowers included roses and came in red, pink, and white. The large cake was also decorated with a flower theme, and Robin seemed delighted as she smiled while posing next to it, writing in her caption:

"46 years of marriage… can you believe it?! There hasn't been a year that has gone by that my husband hasn't made me feel like the most blessed woman in the world."

She declared her love to her husband and toasted the "beautiful life" they shared. Before owning the Beverly Hills home where Robin was seen posing, the couple was owners of a costly but "weird" house. It took the McGraws a long and hard time for them to reach such levels where they could live in luxury.

Phil and Robin's Love Story - From Poverty to Multimillion Manson

In 2019, Yahoo Lifestyle reported how Phil and Robin met through a chance encounter. At the time, the talk show host wasn't so astute in talking with women he liked.

Robin recalled how they first saw each other in her parent's family room as she was friends with his sister. When she walked into the room, Phil was there, and the first thing he said to her was to ask who she was.

Neither of the two was looking for love at that time, especially because Phil would be returning to school to finish his master's degree. However, the pair felt things were falling into place quite fast.

When the television personality asked Robin to go with him on her first plane ride, with him as the pilot, for their first date, she agreed. After taking it as a dare, Phil suggested the flight because she'd never been in an airplane.

The flight occurred at 10 p.m., but surprisingly, that's when Robin realized she was in love. She told the publication, "I really go with my gut always. I knew I'd be safe with this man," adding:

"I do believe in love at first sight, and I fell in love with this man on that very first night."

The same sentiment was shared by Phil, who once confessed that it had been "love at first sight" for him too! In April 2018, Robin told Closer Weekly that she knew from the first evening she visited him that he was "the one."

The couple dated for three years while Robin worked as an operator at the airport. On February 14, 1976, Valentine's Day, Phil radioed in why flying back after a Christmas vacation and asked his girlfriend if she could squeeze him in for a date after her shift ended.

Robin agreed, and Phil proposed that same night! His wife recalled, "I was shocked. I really was very surprised. I was the happiest woman in the world," with the talk show host sharing:

"I knew she was the one because I wasn't looking for the one... And then, I met her, and it just didn't seem like there was much point in doing all of the things I was doing if she wasn’t gonna be involved. That's how I knew."

The couple didn't wait long, and on the day Phil received his master's, six months later, they tied the knot at a Baptist church in Wichita Falls, Texas. The duo used their little money for the wedding, with Robin's wedding dress costing less than $100!

On their 40th wedding anniversary, Robin shared her wedding invites from 1976. She recalled how she and her husband were poor college students when they met but worked two jobs each so they could pay for their wedding expenses.

Phil's wife shared how she'd put her $99 wedding gown on layaway paying five dollars weekly. The couple hustled together until the television personality was able to completely change their lives with the launch of his "Dr. Phil" show in 2002.

The years before their success allowed them to build a strong foundation. Robin and her husband were also able to buy themselves a stunning home in an affluent neighborhood.

Inside the Couple's Beverly Hills Home

The couple's home featured in Robin's 46th-anniversary pictures was a 15,000-square-foot Alamo-style mansion in Beverly Hills. Phil bought the home with his wife in 2011 for $29.5 million!

According to Closer Weekly, what was special about the estate was that it gave the couple more privacy than most of Los Angeles' overcrowded neighborhoods. The property sat on a large hill that offered impressive views of Los Angeles.

The publication claimed the home looked like it could be in a European city. The outside of the home featured wrought-iron balconies, a terracotta roof, white paint, and grand columns.

The inside boasted five bedrooms, two half-bathrooms, and nine full ones! The couple, who have two sons, Jordan and Jay, had a large kitchen, a home office, and several living areas.

The home's beautiful backyard was as stunning as the interior, with a tennis court, a swimming pool, and gorgeous landscaping. By December 2021, Phil was spending more time at home because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and fans could see inside his estate.

In May 2020, fans glimpsed his home office in a post where he revealed he'd grown up with a chalkboard while showing off his desk. The room also featured a chair, multiple computer screens, artwork, and Phil's many awards.

In April 2021, The Richest revealed that the home's exterior looked like San Antonio's Alamo Mission. The couple's main house had a rustic feel with many browns and whites as part of the theme.

The estate was on three acres with a detached guest house above the garage with one bathroom and a bedroom. The house had a library, a game or media room, a drawing room, and a formal dining room.

During the height of the pandemic, Phil revealed he was entertaining himself by playing board games with Robin in their home. In March 2020, he shared a photo of him and his wife playing Yahtzee.

He jokingly noted how he never seemed to win the game against his loving wife! However, the couple wasn't only having fun in their home, but he also hosted his show from there while Robin ran the "I've Got a Secret" podcast.

The home's living room had wooden beams, vaulted ceilings, dark finishings, and modern decor. The living area had comfortable couches, ample space for the couple's dogs, and a television.

The kitchen had the best appliances, with marble countertops, white cabinets, and a tiled masterpiece that hung above the stove. Outside was a long drive that ran all the way from the front of the house to the back.

Phil and Robin managed to last this long because "We have always focused on each other. We've always made it a point to put each other first," according to the latter. The pair found comfort in their shared love and life and never forgot what that meant.

The couple was able to have busy careers and keep their long-running marriage going. The television show host explained how they could do this, stating to Closer Weekly in 2016:

"We really enjoy being together."

However, like any other couple, the famous duo also faced some ups and downs in their relationship. Phil and his wife managed all their responsibilities and kept their marriage and family as their biggest priority.

Speaking to the same publication in 2018, the doctor revealed that there was one particular thing that he believed enabled him and Robin to keep their relationship strong over the years. The star joked that he always said "Yes, dear!" to his wife's requests and opinions!

However, Robin had a different take and believed their shared values and openness bonded them together. The "Self Matters" author's intuitive wife also elaborated on other methods they used to sustain themselves, saying:

"We talked about our needs, and I told him that I couldn't be married in a home with conflict... I told him I don't live in a fairy tale, but I needed to be treated with dignity and respect."

The doctor's wife had fashioned her relationship after being exposed to the one her parents had. She told the publication that her parents never raised their voices, and her father had adored her mother.

Therefore, being adored and loved was something she knew she wanted in her own relationship. The couple owned several properties due to their success over the years, and one of these was also in Los Angeles.

Phil and Robin's Former "Weird" House

The home the Emmy Award winner lived in with his wife wasn't the only property they once owned. Robin and her famous husband used to be owners of a "weird" Beverly Hills mansion that cost the couple $5 million.

Before COVID-19 was declared a pandemic, in January 2020, The Richest Youtube channel shared a screenshot from a Twitter account sharing how Phil was selling the home. The post noted how the estate was going for $5.75 million.

The Richest said the Los Angeles home was bought by the doctor and his wife in 2007. In 2011, the television personality appeared to be selling his properties, and the Beverly Hills home was put on the market for $6.35 million.

The price might've put buyers off because it was snatched up, leading the McGraws to gift it to their youngest son, Jordan. The star's son allegedly lived on the property with his bandmates.

In 2020, the estate was put on the market again at the reduced price mentioned above in the Twitter post. The home wasn't taken off the market immediately, but a buyer popped up in March of that same year.

Jordan [McGraw] appeared to be an art lover with some pieces in the living room from the famous Banksy, like the one titled "Girl with balloon."

The YouTube channel revealed that socialite Anna Shay bought the property for the asking price. The home's exterior view was described as "normal," with a Mediterranean-inspired villa.

What earned the estate the "weird" title was its main gate which had a "whimsical tree vine design." Inside the home, the same theme and design were visible on the staircases' handrails.

In 2015 when Jordan was showing off the house, he said the design idea was Tim Burton throwing up on a canvas that turned into a house! The fountain outside proved Jordan's point, as it looked like a replica of the one used in 1993's "Nightmare Before Christmas."

It was believed that the vine design in the home was inspired by Burton's 2010 "Alice in Wonderland" movie. The house had gothic and fairytale themes mashed together, like in Burton's work.

Some of the rooms in the home were painted black or dark colors. The interior was designed by Mogul Design, but Jordan tried to brighten the space up when he lived there, changing some elements from black to lighter colors like blue.

The channel revealed that the estate was 6,170 square feet with five bedrooms and six bathrooms, with each room having a different aspect. The house also had cartoon statues that were kind of creepy.

Bond and neon colors were also used throughout the interior of the property. Jordan appeared to be an art lover with some pieces in the living room from the famous Banksy, like the one titled "Girl with balloon."

Phil's son also seemed to like mixing pop culture with art, boasting an image of "Star Wars's" Darth Vader with a stormtrooper in business suits. Another piece that stood out was an anti-weapon art installation with guns stored behind a glass panel in the dining room.

When the property was sold, the buyer got to keep all the furnishings mentioned. The house's exterior had a heated in-ground swimming pool with an attached hot tub.

A beautiful outdoor cabana featured a fireplace and a dining area. Phil and Robin's previous home also had a theater that had ample seating and a recording studio, with the Emmy Award winner's estimated net worth being $460 million.
