Family is very important to "Dr. Quinn" star Jane Seymour. She relishes the relationships she shares with her children and grandchildren and has often spoken fondly of them in the media.

Seymour has four children from two fathers. However, her favorite thing is being a grandmother. She gushes about her grandchildren at any opportunity she gets. Yet her grandchildren did not know who their grandmother was to the rest of the world.

The actress has three grandchildren, Rowan, Willa, and Luna. The children are nine, eight, and six, respectively. Seymour is proud of all her grandchildren and speaks about their achievements often. The children call her "Oma."

She mentioned that her granddaughter, Willa, also wanted to be in the entertainment industry and remarked that she was a natural. She also talked about Willa's dancing, saying:

"She's having her first proper ballet lesson, and she got to be on the red carpet, and she got people flashing [cameras] and everything. You know, she couldn't even conceive that that's what Oma does. She just knows me as grandma."

The young girl has made her grandma proud despite not knowing that she was a famous actress. However, she did warn her granddaughter that she should always be herself when going on auditions.

She said that telling her granddaughter to be herself meant that the young woman would never feel like she was rejected for pretending to be someone she was not. Being a grandmother is something that makes Seymour happy.

"The grandkids, they're wonderful."

While Seymour is proud of her grandchildren and everything they have achieved in their short lives, she does not believe that she brings much excitement to their lives. In fact, she gave herself an interesting label.

Seymour Considers Herself a Boring Grandma

Seymour has often been seen in alluring roles where she plays an interesting character who is charming and charismatic. However, Seymour has described herself as a "boring" grandma when it comes to being a grandmother.

She mentioned that she had become a boring person since becoming a grandmother. She admitted:

"Boring people…all they do is talk about the grandchild. How boring to have to look at all those photographs, but I'm one of those boring people!"

The actress then described a time when her granddaughter, who was then six years old, won an award at school. The award was for being helpful and making people around her comfortable. Seymour said she thought, "How cool is that?" when she heard about the award.

She also said that she thought the award was one of the most important kinds of awards one could receive. The young woman was praised by her grandmother for the way that she behaved and the person she was becoming.

Seymour's Adventures with Her Grandkids

At 71, Seymour finds small adventures with her grandchildren thrilling. She has mentioned that one of her favorite things to do with her grandkids is teaching them family history. She does this through inherited items.

Seymour shows her grandchildren photographs and memorabilia she inherited from her late loved ones and teaches them about the people she inherited them from, like her parents and grandparents.

When Seymour is not teaching her grandchildren about where they came from, she accompanies them on adventures. Seymour mentioned that the children had one day of school a week near her on Fridays.

She said that on those days, everything takes place outdoors. The children go to the beach, swim, or do gardening. Talking about these adventures, she remarked:

"Having little adventures with them is fantastic. It keeps you young and active because they move very fast."

Seymour also said that she often sees herself in her grandchildren because the girls love to perform. She also called her grandson "absolutely gorgeous." Her grandchildren even watch her shows.

The actress said that her grandchildren have started watching "Dr. Quinn" and they enjoy it. She also tried to teach her grandchildren the art of using different accents and had begun by teaching them the British accent.

She said that she told her grandchildren that they would have to pronounce things the British way when they went to England. Her grandchildren were keen to use the accent, with the exception of the words "bath" and "tomato," for which they still want to use their American accents.

The reason for teaching them a British accent is that Seymour's mother moved to the UK after spending two years in a Japanese internment camp during World War II. It was in the UK that Seymour's parents met.

The UK holds a lot of family history for Seymour and is another part of what she wants to teach her grandkids about their roots. The accents are just the beginning of one of Seymour's lessons on their background.

Seymour's mother, Mieke, taught her many lessons. The actress shared that her mother taught her that looking back on your past would keep you from moving forward and that being grateful for what you already had would bring you more.

Mieke also instilled in Seymour a sense of doing what is right in terms of helping those less fortunate than her. Now that Seymour is a mother and grandmother, she has spoken about how her mother would feel about her great-grandchildren.

Seymour's mother passed away in 2007, long before Seymour became a grandmother. However, because she was so close to her mom when she was alive, Seymour knows that her mother would have been proud of Rowan, Willa, and Luna.
