Richard Gere, 76, and Diana Silvers, 28, Share an On-Set Moment in 'Asymmetry' That Has Stunned Fans — Photos
The cameras captured a far more intimate moment than earlier glimpses of the film had suggested, and viewers had plenty to say once they saw it.
Richard Gere, 76, and Diana Silvers, 28, were photographed filming "Asymmetry" in New York City on July 13, 2026. Their polished costumes initially made the shoot look like an elegant day in Manhattan, but the scene they were performing soon became impossible to overlook.

Their First Photos Offered a Much Softer Introduction
Gere and Silvers are playing the central couple in the screen adaptation of Lisa Halliday's acclaimed novel "Asymmetry." The actors portray Ezra, a famous 70-year-old author, and Alice, a young editorial assistant who enters a secret relationship with him.
The first official glimpse of the pair was considerably less provocative. In an exclusive image published by People, the actors were shown sitting together on a park bench and laughing during filming in New York City's Riverside Park on Thursday, July 2.
The scene represents Ezra and Alice's first meeting in Central Park. Their brief eye contact sparks a bond that draws them into a private world, where Ezra feels able to show vulnerability, and Alice becomes more confident about pursuing her own writing.
Their romance remains hidden until its exposure threatens everything they have created together. That description already made it clear that the characters' unequal ages and positions would sit at the center of the film, even before the later shoot offered a more physical look at their relationship.

Halliday's debut novel was released in 2018 and later appeared on The New York Times' list of the most remarkable books of the 21st century. Its film adaptation is being directed by Oscar winner Edward Zwick, whose credits include "The Last Samurai."
Halliday said working with Zwick and Herskovitz to bring Alice and Ezra's relationship to the screen had been "a pleasure and a privilege." Zwick explained that he was drawn to the novel because it was emotional, perceptive, funny, and centered on two people whose connection challenges the way outsiders view them.
Stacey Snider, FilmNation Entertainment's chief creative officer, and Rainmaker Films co-founder Clay Pecorin offered a similar interpretation. In a statement reported by Deadline, they described the movie as an "unconventional love story" between people at sharply different points in their lives.
According to them, that connection forces both the characters and the audience to reconsider assumptions about love and power. The movie is also listed on IMDb, although a release date has not yet been announced.
The Latest Scene Revealed More Than a Friendly Connection
Unfortunately, not everyone is ready for an unconventional couple, as evidenced by the reaction to Gere and Silvers' latest photos. The images of their July 13 scene showed more of the contrast between their characters, even through their clothes.
Gere wore a tailored dark gray blazer over an olive-green button-down shirt. He paired it with dark trousers, a brown leather belt, classic brown dress shoes, and round sunglasses with dark lenses.

Big age-gap romances are not rare in Hollywood, so this adaptation should not have been a problem. In this photo, Richard Gere and Diana Silvers were seen on the set of "Asymmetry" on July 13, 2026, in New York City, New York. | Source: Getty Images
Meanwhile, Silvers appeared in a sleeveless dark gray tank top tucked into a short black ribbed A-line skirt. A pale yellow sweater was draped over her shoulders and tied at the front, while black leather loafers, a watch, and a structured black tote completed her outfit.
But their clothes were not the issue here. Journalist Mickey Blank captured exclusive footage showing Gere and Silvers filming a kiss. The intimate moment made the fictional romance unmistakable and immediately shifted attention toward the difference between the two actors.

The casting technically mirrors the novel's premise, since Ezra is approximately 70 while Alice is a much younger woman. Even so, seeing the relationship portrayed physically prompted a much stronger response than the earlier photograph of the characters laughing on a bench.
Viewers Had Blunt Questions About the Pairing
Under Blank's post, many commenters focused immediately on the actors' real ages. One person laid out the numbers without adding anything else, "The actress is 28. The actor is 76." Another emphasized the difference, writing, "48 year age gap [sic]!"

People were also uncomfortable watching the photos and videos of them being affectionate on set. In this photo, Richard Gere and Diana Silvers were seen on the set of "Asymmetry" on July 13, 2026, in New York City, New York. | Source: Getty Images
A separate commenter simply asked, "Why? Someone please tell me why?" Some people made it clear that their criticism was directed at the casting rather than Gere himself. One wrote, "I like Richard Gere. But the age difference is exhausting."
Another refused to separate the fictional relationship from what appeared on screen, commenting, "She could be his granddaughter, i don't care if it's film [sic]." The sarcasm became sharper as more viewers weighed in. One person wrote, "Yeah so romantic, some grandpa making out with someone fifty years younger than him."
Another commenter acknowledged Gere's appeal but argued that it did not make the pairing convincing: "Richard Gere is hot, but not for a 28 year old. Where's his wife? Don't they have young children? I'm sure he doesn't need the money. 🤔"
Someone else found the scene awkward rather than romantic, writing, "This looks so unnatural that it's 🙄 embarrassing."
The reaction continued on Facebook, where the same family comparison appeared repeatedly. One person commented, "That's just wrong. He could be her grandfather." Another was less surprised by the casting and wrote, "Unexpected ? I' d say a classic totally expected 😀 [sic]."
A third viewer complimented Gere while reaching the same conclusion about the visual difference between the leads: "Richard looks great but she looks like his granddaughter lol."
The Grandfather Comparisons Were Not Literally Accurate
Despite the repeated comments, Gere does not currently have grandchildren. He is, however, the father of three sons, including two young children.
His eldest son, Homer James Jigme Gere, was born in 2000 during the actor's marriage to Carey Lowell. Gere also shares Alexander Gere, born in 2019, and James Gere, born in 2020, with his current wife, Alejandra Silva Gere.
That means Gere's sons are now 26, 7, and 6. Alejandra also has a 13-year-old son, Albert Friedland, from her previous relationship with Govind Friedland. The discussion about Gere's family arrived as Alejandra and the younger boys were celebrating Spain's latest World Cup victory.
On Tuesday, July 14, Alejandra shared an Instagram carousel after Spain defeated France in the World Cup semifinals. Originally from Spain, she watched the match with two of her sons and posted photos of the family celebrating the result.
In one selfie, Alejandra wore a white soccer jersey and matching skirt while her sons stood beside her in red and blue jerseys. "Congratulations, Spain!!! We're in the final!!" she wrote in Spanish.
"What a joy to see Spain in the final!" she continued. "Now, let's enjoy the journey...and keep dreaming together. Let's go, Spain!" Gere and Alejandra married in 2018. In 2024, six years after their wedding, they announced plans to move to Spain.
While his family cheered for Spain, Gere's work in New York was creating an entirely different discussion. The kiss may belong to Ezra and Alice, but the footage left many viewers unable to look past the actors playing them.
