Florida Mom Prays for Son in a Coma for 8 Months until He Finally Wakes Up

A family's world was turned upside down when their son was involved in a severe motorcycle accident. Doctors had no hope for the youngster, but his mother's faith never faltered.

Drew Kohn had a bright future ahead of him, and nobody could have imagined that his life would change forever days before his 23rd birthday.

Drew's dad, David Kohn, always knew he was gifted. From when he was a baby, it was evident that he belonged on the sports field. Sadly, the young athletic man's active lifestyle stopped abruptly and unexpectedly.

The Devastating Accident

Drew was driving to the gym when his parents' worst nightmare came true. A horrific motorcycle accident left him in bad shape, with little to no chance of recovery. Ben and Casey Kambach witnessed the ordeal and rushed to help Drew. Casey shared:

"I just knelt down to him and told him to keep breathing and doing what he was doing and he took a really deep breath in ... I knew [it] was enough that he was breathing."

The crash put Drew in a coma, but Florida mom, Yolanda Osborne Kohn, put her faith into action. For more than 240 days, she prayed for a miracle.

His Mother Refused to Give Up

Drew lay in a hospital bed after the accident left him with various life-threatening injuries. His mother recalled: "He looked like death, smelled like death, and responded like death."

While Drew couldn't talk immediately, his waking was the first of many miracles.

The 2017 crash stole Drew's promising youth, but his mom refused to give up. Yolanda asked God to heal her son every morning and every evening, clinging to her faith and believing that something miraculous was coming.

It Wasn't Easy

Drew was declared brain dead, but the mother stated: "All things are possible when God is in it." It wasn't easy, and the family was constantly reminded that even if Drew woke up, they should not expect him to be the same as before.

The mother noted: "Every single day was a battle ... it was 'he's not able to do this, he's not ready, he's not awake.'" But this did not sway her heartfelt pleas to God.

God Answered the Mother's Prayers

After eight months, God answered Yolanda's requests. The emotional mother shared: "Your prayers count. That's what I want people to know."

Against all odds, her son emerged from his coma, and she would have the chance to hear him speak and feel his embrace again. While Drew couldn't talk immediately, his waking was the first of many miracles.

His First Words

Drew was allowed to go home, where his mother cared for him daily. One day, she got an unexpected answer from her son. She asked him how he was doing and likely assumed there would be no reply like all the days before.

But her son surprised her and countless doctors with his response and first words. He said: "Mom, I'm okay. I love you, mom."

The family got their modern-day miracle, and Yolanda explained that hearing her son's voice after almost 250 days was significant. She compared it to moms hearing their babies speak their first words. However, the battle was not over yet.

Their Faith Kept Them Going

Drew had a long road of recovery ahead, and thanks to new technology, he could voice himself. He asked his mom for a Bible and opened Psalm 100 and Psalm 57. His mom shared the special moment:

"He was crying and I was crying. You can’t say his mind is not there. Not only did he ask to read a certain scripture but [it said], 'the Lord is my refuge. Who will I run to? Who is my strong tower?'"

A Walking Miracle

Drew still had a lot of fight left in him, and he was determined to get back on his feet and out of his wheelchair. He spent many hours in rehab and physical therapy, learning to walk and push through the pain.

His mother was overjoyed with his progress and couldn't wait to see how God would use her son. She expressed:

"He has a story to tell — he has a testimony. So he's a walking testimony."

Drew's story is one of a kind, and his recovery is an inspiring miracle. His mother's prayers were answered, and we celebrate with the family for his healing. May God continue to strengthen him.
