On Tuesday, November 3, 2020, Simmons memorialized the second anniversary of the death of her ex-partner Sutton Tennyson through a heartbreaking Instagram post. Tennyson and Simmons got engaged in April 2016 and shared a son Sutton Joseph Jr, born on September 22, the same year.
Tennyson met his untimely death in 2018 after he got shot in a garage in Atlanta. According to eyewitnesses, the gunshots were fired after Tennyson argued with one other guy.
The police reports indicate that the culprit drove off from the scene of the incident. Simmons announced the awful news on Sunday, November 2, 2018, on her Instagram page:
"Thank you for leaving behind my greatest gift. I'm hurting. I'm numb. Thank you for the outpouring of love, everyone. I can't believe I'm even saying Rest In Peace, Sutton. I promise to hold SJ down in every way. I promise.''
In an episode of ''Growing Up Hip-Hop,'' the TV reality star opened up about how she was a victim of abuse but didn't name the abuser. It's unclear if she was referring to Tennyson. The 35-year-old added that she never thought something like that could ever happen to her.
Simmons recalled going through verbal and emotional abuse and feeling stuck, hoping things would get better, but they didn't. The mom of one disclosed that, at some point, she felt used and unworthy.
