Xander Dane Jones Is January Jones' Only Son She Raises on Her Own – All We Know About Him

After awaiting motherhood, January Jones' son, Xander Dane Jones, was born when the actress was in her early thirties. And while she is a well-known actress in the public eye, January Jones has never revealed her son's father's identity.

January made a name for herself as a model from South Dakota before she broke into the Hollywood acting scene. And it didn't take long for her to land one of her most notable roles as Betty Draper on "Mad Men," earning two Golden Globe nominations and an Emmy nomination as Best Actress.

Over the years, she has been linked to a handful of famous faces. And while some have been more public than others, January has become notorious for keeping her private life out of the spotlight – motherhood included.

January's representatives confirmed she was expecting her first child in 2011. At that point, she chose not to disclose further details, such as her baby's gender, but a source said:

"She's really looking forward to this new chapter in her life as a single mom."

While it was a surprise to the public that January was expecting, those close to the actress said she had longed to become a mother.

Matthew Weiner, the creator of "Mad Men," revealed that January had been talking about becoming a mother since the day he met her, which he noted was unusual for actresses.

She was still filming her hit series when she fell pregnant, and January said she did not want to hide her growing baby bump to avoid it interfering with the plot of the series as she feared it might make the show comical.

However, her character falling pregnant did not fit the storyline. So Weiner played with ideas such as using a body double or covering her growing belly with a laundry basket but eventually decided to add a plot twist and make her character gain weight.

January had to wear prosthetic padding to create the illusion of her character's weight gain, which she admitted was a shock to the system when she rewatched the show, but it was an idea she came to love. While speaking about the expecting mom, Weiner said:

"She's got a big heart. I think she's going to be amazing; she is going to be someone (who) is going to be so devoted."

January gave birth to her son on September 13, 2011, and her rep confirmed she and Xander were "doing great." While she chose not the share her child's sex, she also decided to keep it as a surprise for herself.

January Jones Has Never Revealed the Identity of Xander Dane's Father

In 2013, January revealed that she knew she wanted to raise her son alone. At the time, the actress was not in a place where she wanted a partner and felt mentally ready to undertake single motherhood.

Over the years, fans have speculated who the potential father of her son might be and narrowed it down to five men. The first was Matthew Vaughn, who grew close to January after he directed her in "X-Men: First Class."

The second was Jason Sudeikis, January's last known boyfriend before her son was born, and the third was Michael Fassbender, her "X-Men: First Class" co-star. The fourth was Bobby Flay, leaving Xander Berkeley in the fifth, who appeared in "Seeking Justice" alongside January.

However, despite all the speculation, January has been adamant she will not disclose her son's father's identity as it is a personal matter he should turn to her for and not Google. January said:

"That's my son's business, it's not the public's business."

Despite feeling prepared to tackle motherhood alone, January admitted that she found the idea scary. Thankfully, she had a family of women to support her.

Outside of relatives, January had an army of female celebrity friends she counted on, such as Noami Watts, Amy Adams, Rose Byrne, and Diane Kruger.

In 2021, Xander was January's date to a rare public appearance when they attended the 14th Annual Oceana SeaChange Summer Party benefit. And from time to time, January Jones also takes to social media to share pictures and videos of her son.
