Amy Adams Has Gained Weight to Film Several Movies – In Real Life, She Doesn't Make Losing Weight Top Priority
Amy Adams' weight gain has been associated with her starring in several movies. However, in real life, the award-winning actress once said losing weight was not at the top of her to-do list.
While most of her fans had the impression Adams added weight in some of her movie roles, it turns out that she didn't always gain weight. Rather, she used prosthetic parts to modify her appearance for films that required it.
Although she gained weight during a particular stage in her life — when she was pregnant — the actress revealed she wanted to be present in every moment of her life. Adams stated that she embraced her body throughout her pregnancy and had an authentic relationship with it.

Amy Adams Gained Some Weight during "Julie & Julia''
Adams added some weight while filming the 2009 romantic drama ''Julie & Julia." In the movie, Adams plays a blogger who tries to emulate Julia Child's cooking techniques.
In an interview with Access Hollywood, the actress stated that she enjoyed playing the role because she could eat as much as she wanted. Adam noted that she added some weight but didn't specify how much since she didn't step on a weighing scale:
"It was a byproduct, yeah, there was some weight gain, but I didn't weigh myself, so I really don't know."

Amy Adams' Transformation for "Hillbilly Elegy''
Fans were impressed by Adams' performance in the Netflix drama film ''Hillbilly Elegy'' and the physical appearance she took on for the role. Adams played Bev Vance, a mom of two who struggled with drug addiction problems while raising her son.
To fit into the role, the actress underwent an intense transformation that made her almost unrecognizable. While many fans questioned Adams' weight gain in the movie, the actress revealed that she didn't have to add weight for the role.

The award-winning actress disclosed that she wore wigs and used some prosthetics to temporarily change her appearance.
In real life, Adams is not obsessed with her weight. But in the TV series "Smallville," she played Jodi, a young woman obsessed with losing weight.
Adams stated that during the making of the film, she gave her wig a special nickname, "Beaverly," because it was so hot, and she felt as if she wore a beaver on her head.

Amy Adams Gained Weight for the Movie "Vice''
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Adams disclosed that she gained between 12 to 15 pounds to fit into her role as Lynne in the comedy film. The actress stated Lynne was serious and very grounded, so her weight gain blended with the role.
Amy Adams' weight gain was again spotted on the set of her recent movie. The actress looked unrecognizable from her regular red-carpet appearances. The 48-year-old, who plays a stay-at-home mom, wore a floppy striped shirt and oversized trousers with no makeup.
The film tells the story of a suburban mom who stays at home raising a toddler. As she embraces motherhood, she becomes aware of the strange and undeniable signs that she may be losing her self-worth.
Weight Loss Was Not Amy Adams' Top Priority
Months after welcoming her daughter in 2010, the actress recalled that when she was pregnant, she finally understood her relationship with her body and appreciated her weight gain. Adams added that after the birth, she worked out and ate a balanced diet.
However, Adams revealed that getting her body back was not her number one priority. The mom of one further disclosed that she didn't think her career success had ever been determined by her "rockin'" body.
Thanks to her honesty and positive attitude, director David O. Russell picked Adams to play Chalene in the movie ''The Fighter.'' Russell admitted Adams was the last person one would imagine for the role. However, he realized that her personality and great qualities were perfect for it.
Adams thinks her upbringing prepared her well for her role in ''The Fighter.'' Her mother was a professional bodybuilder, and the actress thinks it was her mom's way of reclaiming her body after giving birth many times.
She stated that her mother worked in the gym, so she was physically fit and involved in sports. Adams revealed that she was a tough kid and would defend herself whenever she got into any kind of fight.
Amy Adams Once Played a Character Obsessed with Her Weight
Although in real life, Adams is comfortable with her weight, in the TV series "Smallville," she played Jodi, a young woman obsessed with losing weight. She went to great lengths to drink lots of protein shakes to lose weight.
Unfortunately, Jodi drank shakes made from vegetables contaminated with kryptonite, and an unusual thing happened afterward. She got the ability to digest anything she wanted and, at the same time, lose weight at a rapid pace.
The consequence was a voracious appetite which made her eat more just to keep up with her body's frightening metabolism. The episode was entertaining, but at the same time, it taught fans a tough lesson about body image.
Amy Adams stated that despite juggling motherhood and her acting career, she's learned to focus on the moment and not to be too strict on herself.
