Sarah Sutherland Doesn't Want to Be Associated with Her Famous Family – Meet Kiefer Sutherland's Daughter

Sarah Sutherland has a famous family name in Hollywood, but she doesn't want any favors or special treatment because of it. The daughter and granddaughter of Hollywood legends Keifer Sutherland and Donald Sutherland, she is on a mission to make a name for herself in the movie and TV industries.

After her grandfather's and grandmothers' exploits in the entertainment industry, her father and his brothers took up the mantle and continued the family legacy. Whereas Donald has been in over 180 films and TV shows, Keifer has also been very successful, with over 90 credits in movie and television productions.

Despite a long history of acting in their family, Sarah's professional acting career started relatively late. Hence, she has only a handful of productions under her belt. But her career has been moving steadily in the right direction and the name Sutherland looks set to continue its legacy in Hollywood.

Sarah Sutherland Is Kiefer Sutherland's Only Biological Daughter and His "Greatest Accomplishment"

In 1987, when Keifer Sutherland was still relatively starting his career, he married fellow actress Camelia Kath who is twelve years older. They welcomed their only child together, Sarah Sutherland, on February 18, 1988. Sutherland was delighted by the experience, and during an interview in 1988, he confessed:

“Children help adults in a lot of ways. Humility is probably the largest. I’ve done stupid things just in trying to keep Sarah from crying. In a lot of ways, having a baby has made me feel a lot younger. When I was living by myself, I was very much in control of my life."

Keifer conceded that he had so many expectations of his experience as a first-time father to an infant but all that went down the drain after fatherhood became a reality. Although this was Sutherland's first child, Camelia already had another daughter from her previous marriage who was about 12 years older than Sarah.

With an illustrious career that has seen him gain global acclaim, the actor has many things to be grateful for, especially his portrayal of Jack Bauer in the hit TV series "24." Moreover, he counts his close bond with his kids among his most outstanding achievement. He said:

"I still share a beautiful relationship with my children, and that has been one of the greatest blessings in my life. I became a dad when I was 20-years-old. You realize very quickly that you’re responsible for things that are outside of yourself and your responsibility to those things is more important than any other thing."

Besides Sarah, Sutherland became a stepfather to his first wife's daughter, Michelle Kath. Michelle was born in Los Angeles on May 19, 1976. She is also involved in Hollywood and has been credited as a director-producer on several productions, including "The Terry Kath Experience" and "As I AM: The Life and Times of DJ AM."

Sarah Sutherland Is Already a Critically Acclaimed Actress

Sarah's parents have been involved in Hollywood, which their daughter has also stepped into. Her passion for acting began at an early age. She received acting training at Los Angeles' Crossroads Drama Conservatory, where she was noted for her outstanding performances in drama.

She furthered her education at the Tisch School of Arts, where she was taught various acting techniques, including movement, voice, and speech. Later, she graduated from New York University with honors. She has since been credited with 13 movies as an actress and one as a producer.

Some of her appearances have been in movies such as "The Kid Detective," "Beneath the Harvest Sky" and "Like a House on Fire" and television series like "The Newsroom," "Tima and Eric's Bedtime Stories," and "Ms. Fisher's Modern Murder Mysteries."

However, her most notable appearance was in "Veep," a comedy series aired on HBO between 2012 and 2020. She was one of the main characters and portrayed Catherine Meyer, a president's daughter. She starred alongside Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who plays her vicious mother.

Although the two had a hostile relationship on-screen, their relationship off-screen was more cordial. Sarah insisted that she liked her co-star when they first met and learned a lot from her during their time together. She further revealed there was a lot of laughter shared between takes.

Sarah Sutherland Tries to Blaze Her Own Trail

Besides having some of the biggest names in Hollywood as a father and a grandfather, Sarah has tried to avoid using their names or influences to get her roles in movies or television. Keifer commented about his daughter's desire to be independent, saying:

“She’s an extraordinary actor. She gets mad when I talk about her publicly. … But the truth is, she’s worked so hard to do this on her own. I couldn’t even tell you her agent’s name. I have no idea.”

Sarah has reportedly turned down two jobs from her father, whom she is adamant about keeping out of her career. She pointed out that her being related to Donald and Keifer Sutherland is not something she identifies with. The family doesn't even delve much into their acting careers when they meet.

The actress added that her independence has made her family ties even stronger. She said, "I'm very close with my father and grandfather, and I'm so proud to come from the family that I do," she said. "Because independent of them as men, I admire them so much as actors." Still, she seems to be doing well for herself.
