The global star comes from a family with a wrestling background. His grandfather, Peter Maiva, was a pro wrestler in the 1960s and '70s. His father, Rocky Johnson, was a boxer.
Meanwhile, the young Johnson was an exceptional high school athlete. He played on the 1991 NCAA Championship football team at the University of Miami and later graduated with a Bachelor of General Studies in 1995. Unfortunately, his football career was cut short following an injury.
Johnson shifted his focus to wrestling, and because of his size, speed, and agility, he made his World Wrestling Federation (WWF) debut in 1996 as Rocky Maiva. Dwayne instantly won over wrestling fans' hearts with his charisma. Within months, he won the WWF Intercontinental title.
His popularity gained momentum, and he later won multiple world championship titles in 1998. Afterward, Johnson showed interest in acting and made his movie debut in "The Mummy Returns" (2001).
His first acting stint was a success, and he decided to ditch the ring for the big screen. Following the appearance of his first film, he made two more sequels and officially turned acting into his full-time career in 2004.
Now 50, Johnson's highest-grossing film is "Jumanji" (2018). He also appeared in the nail-biting action/thriller movie, "Skyscraper" in 2018 and "Rampage" based on the 1980s arcade game (released a few months before "Skyscrapers").
Johnson later starred as himself in "Fighting with My Family" (2019). Later that year, he switched back to acting when he starred alongside Jason Statham in the blockbuster film franchise, "Fast & Furious" spin-off "Hobbs & Shaw.
In 2021, a TV series about Johnson's life, "Young Rock," premiered. It stars Johnson and fellow actors portraying the younger versions of him.
Who Is Johnson's Wife?
Apart from his thriving career, the "San Andreas" star is a family man and is married to his long-time love, singer, and music producer, Lauren Hashian. The couple has two daughters, Jasmine, born in December 2015, and Tiana, whom they welcomed in April 2018.
Johnson is also a father to his adult daughter, Simone, whom he shares with his first wife, Dany Garcia. The former pair are high school sweethearts who wed in 1997 but divorced ten years later in 2008.

After welcoming two girls with Hashian, the lovebirds tied the knot on August 18, 2019. The family of four resides in a stunning mansion that often features on Johnson's Instagram feed.
The abode has cream carpets and elegant furnishings. Johnson has given fans a glimpse into his family home, where he captures memorable moments with his young daughters.
When he once filmed himself brushing Tiana's hair, he revealed what appeared to be her bedroom, complete with a chest of drawers, a kids' table, and a TV screen.
One clip showed the couple's living room, revealing a gray chevron-covered TV and a matching rug. Tiana's chair is also featured in the video. Johnson previously filmed outside his house, showing the red-brick exterior and Georgian windows.
He and Hashian have a garden with perfectly pruned flowers and a paved area with a metal seat. The estate's front features an enormous white door with pillars.
The property also has a gym which the famed actor nicknamed "Iron Paradise." The space has a massive workout area. Each one of Johnson's homes reportedly has its own gym space.
Johnson's Devotion to His Daughters
As a father of three, Johnson is a devoted girl dad and always shows off his father-and-daughter moments on social media. He spoke candidly about being a dad to girls in 2021 and expressed that the experience helped him to be "more tender and gentle."
The "Tooth Fairy" star also showcases his parenting practices online. On December 6, 2022, Johnson posted a clip of him holding his daughters, Tiana and Jasmine, while their mom performed ahead of an NFL game and said it was a sentimental moment for him. He once penned on his Instagram:
"Every man wants a son, but every man NEEDS a daughter."
As a father to an older daughter also, Johnson ensures that he splits his time between two cities, Los Angeles and Florida, where Simone grew up.
Despite his hectic schedule, Johnson always makes quick round trips to see his eldest daughter in Miami. He flew to spend Valentine's Day with her in February 2019.
A month before, the father-and-daughter duo had attended the Sundance Film Festival. Later that year, the proud dad sent his firstborn off to college at New York University and revealed that they both have "an awesome relationship."
Meanwhile, when his second oldest daughter, Jasmine, arrived into the world, Johnson said: "Christmas came early!" in a social media post and stated he wanted to be an even better dad.
Since then, the duo has enjoyed father-and-daughter bonding moments as they have movie nights, spa days, and pranks. The doting dad brought his child to his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony in December 2017. Then 2-year-old Jasmine made fans swoon when she told her father she loved him in the microphone during his speech.
When Johnson's youngest daughter was born, he went into full-dad mode by pulling out of a CinemaCon appearance for "Skyscraper" as he was on "dad duty" and stayed up all night.
Ahead of Tiana's birth, "The Game Plan" star expressed he was overjoyed about being a girl dad once again and revealed details about his childhood experience:
"I was raised by women all my life, basically."
Over the years, Johnson has shown off how well of a girl dad he is by revealing his "exceptional hair skills" and giving Tiana a manicure, including having tea parties with her.
Overall, the movie star has tried to instill self-confidence in all his girls and shares words of affirmation with them. Moreover, Johnson has continuously shown affection for his daughters publicly and once said that he makes the most of the precious time he has with them:
"Can't guarantee I'll love and protect all my daughters for the rest of their lives, but I can guarantee I will for the rest of mine."
On December 6, 2022, Jasmine turned seven, and her dad penned a sweet message for her birthday on social media. He said she was "the best fishing buddy" and that he would always be there for her, adding:
"I love you more than words exist for me, and I'm flying home so I can tuck you in tonight! Happy birthday, baby."
The photos on the post feature Johnson and his daughter by the lake catching fish, and others show the loving dad holding Jasmine as an infant and playing with her inside an airplane.
Like in 2021, the "Moana" star kept his promise of getting home just in time to tuck in Jasmine on her birthday. He made mention of the heart-warming gesture on Instagram, revealing he traveled just for her.
Johnson also flew in from work to help celebrate Jasmine's sixth birthday and deemed her kind-hearted, "sweet, and independent." He noted he would always be by her side and "guide" her through life.
