Having been constantly disappointed by her ex-husband, Megan avoided any romantic pursuits. But everything changed when she met Daniel. Will she open herself up to the idea of falling in love again?

Megan had recently divorced her husband of 12 years, Victor. When Megan first met Victor, he was an ambitious man who had promised her a bright future.

After their son, Chris was born, Megan tried her best to motivate Victor to chase his dreams and work hard. Unfortunately, Victor was all talk, no walk. He was an absent father, always spending time away from home and only ever working odd jobs.

Eventually, Megan had enough. She constantly worked extra hard while Victor slacked off, so she filed for divorce after Chris turned ten.

Victor moved back into his mother's house, and Megan decided to focus on Chris' future. She worked two jobs to cover their living expenses and Chris' school fees.

"It's just you and me now, okay?" Megan told her son.

She felt guilty that Victor had set a bad example of what a father should be and thought it best that she avoid dating. Megan was a beautiful woman and certainly had options. Still, she was worried that her son might think less of her if she brought home another man, or even worse, a man who neglected them.

"I've been saving money, and soon I'm going to open my own specialized art academy for young artists like Chris."

Megan had two remote jobs doing administrative work and was often exhausted. "I'm sorry that I can't spend a lot of time doing other activities, Chris," She told Chris.

"That's okay, mom. I've been working extra hard on my drawings," Chris replied. Chris was an art prodigy who drew his comics in his spare time. At school, he found a mentor in his art teacher, Daniel.

As the Christmas season approached, Megan took leave from work to focus on shopping and cleaning the house. It would be their first Christmas together since Victor left, and Megan wanted to treat Chris to a special day. Chris was taking an extra art lesson after school, so Megan was supposed to pick him up later in the day.

She had been tired for weeks and, after cleaning, sat on the couch for a quick power nap. Megan thought to herself, I'll just rest my eyes for a short while. She didn't realize that she had left her phone in a different room, so she slept through her alarms, and couldn't hear her phone ringing.

Megan woke up to the sound of her front door knocking, and when she looked out the window, she could see it had gotten late. She grabbed her phone and rushed to the front door in a panic. When she opened the door, Chris was standing there with a good-looking man she couldn't recognize.

The man was tall and built and wore a white t-shirt with paint stains all over it.

"Hi there, I'm Daniel, Chris' art teacher from school. I tried calling you while Chris waited for you, but I figured I could just walk him home," Daniel said.

Megan checked her phone and could see 10 missed calls from the same number. She slapped herself on the forehead before hugging Chris.

"I'm so sorry, Chris. I fell asleep when I was cleaning," Megan said. She then looked at Victor before saying, "Thank you so much for bringing him home, Daniel. I apologize for putting you in that situation. I owe you big time."

"It's no problem, really. Chris is my best student. Chris, show her what you worked on today," Daniel said. Chris revealed a large drawing of his favorite superhero soaring through the sky, and Megan gave him a high five.

"Mr. Daniel's family is in another state, so he's also lonely on Christmas. Maybe you could invite him," Chris said. Daniel blushed and scratched the back of his head, and Megan rubbed her arm nervously. Even though Megan found Daniel attractive, she was still nervous about dating.

However, she realized it was just Christmas dinner and agreed to invite Daniel. Daniel arrived with a gift for Chris and a large Tupperware when Christmas came around.

"Merry Christmas! I made some apple pie using my mom's old recipe," Daniel said as he handed Chris his present. He bought Chris a new set of colored pens that he could use for his comics. It was a special gift for Chris, whose father didn't bother to buy him anything.

As they all ate dinner at the table, Megan decided to learn more about Daniel. "So, how did you know you wanted to be an art teacher?" She asked.

"I always had a problem with how art was taught in school. It wasn't taken seriously. Even now, as a teacher, I feel limited. So I've been saving money, and soon I'm going to open my own specialized art academy for young artists like Chris," Daniel said.

Megan was impressed. Not only did Daniel have a vision for his future, but he already had a plan of how he would make it happen. After dinner, the three sat and watched a Christmas movie together before Daniel had to go home.

"I hope this isn't inappropriate, Megan, but I would regret it if I didn't ask. Can I take you out sometime?" Daniel asked.

Megan was caught off-guard and took a pause to think. She hadn't dated anyone since leaving Victor and, in truth, had been feeling quite lonely.

"Yeah, sure. Maybe you could take me to a gallery one of these days," Megan suggested. The two started dating soon after and hit it off immediately. After a year together, Megan and Daniel got married. Megan sold her house, and she and Chris moved in with Daniel.

Using Daniel's savings and the money from selling Megan's house, the two brought Daniel's dream to life and opened an art academy. Megan could leave her two jobs and work as an administrator for the academy.

Chris was the first to enroll in the school and used his afternoons and weekends to hone his craft. The academy became a full-fledged family business.
