Valerie Bertinelli is not shy about talking about her appearance and does not hide her wrinkles and weight. She teaches people to accept themselves, regardless of age.

During a January 2023 interview, Valerie Bertinelli spoke openly about her looks. The star admitted to having spent decades thinking she had to look a certain way so people could like and accept her.

She confessed to having started experiencing body image issues since childhood. The late Eddie Van Halen's ex-wife said in her book that she had to pretend to be upbeat and an all-American girl.

However, privately, she thought of herself as a failure. By the time she was 47, she'd become Jenny Craig's spokesperson as she tried to deal with the reasons for her weight gain over the years and to get healthy.

She'd separated from Eddie and refused to take his money. The "One Day at a Time" actress was a single mother working to earn a living and lost 50 pounds using "unhealthy" methods.

Bertinelli admitted to working out twice a day and starving herself and didn't care for her heart or mind. At 61, in early 2023, the star weighed more than she did at a younger age but no longer shamed herself for her looks.

She explained that she'd learned that one's body wasn't what made one lovable. The star now dealt with her weight insecurities by refusing to weigh herself because she knew it wasn't about the number that appeared on the scale.

She knew there wouldn't be before and after photos and accepted whatever happened to her body. Bertinelli was done judging herself and wished to be more accepting and kinder to herself.

In 2015, she honestly and without shyness tweeted that she understood getting wrinkles because of menopause and aging but couldn't stand the pimples that came with it!

Bertinelli once described herself as an "everything's fine" type of woman, but the truth was the years had been hard on her. In 2016, she lost her father and felt she had to care for her mother by making her feel included and like people were still paying attention to her.

However, while caring for her parent, the star forgot to do the same for herself. When her mother passed away, the last few years and the sadness she experienced from the loss combined and grabbed her heart for too long with her, but she eventually found a way to put herself first.

How Does Valerie Take Care of Herself?

After losing her parents and dealing with other life trials, Bertinelli used food to avoid stress and sadness. However, trying to eat away her issues made her feel worse about herself, but now one of her mottos is "choose happy."

Although the truth was that sometimes making that choice was a challenge. When she prepared to turn 60 in April 2020, her mission was to know what "true joy" felt like inside and out, even though it was a challenge in this trying world.

The actress believed being joyous was linked to making healthy choices in everything she did. She had to find health in the people she surrounded herself with, the food she ate, and most importantly, the way she spoke to herself.

On January 18, 2022, Bertinelli released her memoir and chose to share her life with her fans in the book titled, "Enough Already: Learning to Love the Way I Am Today." The star once admitted that cooking had been a considerable part of her life because she'd been doing it longer than acting.

She said being a cook was something in her soul and heart, and she liked showing her love through food. In October 2021, the Food Network star revealed in an Instagram Story post that she'd gotten her second vampire facial.

The facial involved professionals drawing blood from the client and re-injecting it into their faces to give them a fresh skin appearance. The procedure improved the overall texture, increased collagen production, and reduced wrinkles.

However, she [Valerie Bertinelli] figured she wouldn't mind being surrounded by her dog, six cats, her son [Wolfgang "Wolfie" Van Halen], and one day grandchildren!

Bertinelli said the treatment had left her feeling like she'd had a sunburn and was redder than the first treatment. Besides living a healthier and happier life, the star was also looking forward to a new role!

Valerie Is Ready to Become a Grandmother

Bertinelli's son, Wolfgang "Wolfie" Van Halen, got engaged to his girlfriend, Andraia Allsop, in July 2022. Wolfie shared an Instagram photo of himself smiling beside his fiancée and revealed that he'd proposed.

In the image, Allsop showed off her diamond engagement ring, and Wolfie revealed in the caption that she'd said, "yes!!" Bertinelli commented below the post, asking how she could love the news a million times.

She excitedly revealed that she was happy about her only son getting married. Replying to his mother, the Grammy Award-nominated musician declared his love for her.

After finalizing her divorce from her husband, Tom Vitale, Bertinelli said she would be "happily divorced" and ready to spend the rest of her life alone. However, she figured she wouldn't mind being surrounded by her dog, six cats, her son, and one day grandchildren!
