Valerie Bertinelli Is Not Alone on 1st Christmas since Divorce: She Shares Emotional Message

On 2022's Christmas Day, Valerie Bertinelli, then 62, took to her Instagram account to write a lovely holiday message. The post included a cartoon illustration of a steampunk Santa Claus created with artificial intelligence by santasombra.

The Food Network star wished everyone a Merry Christmas and shared her gratitude for her family. She noted how nothing beats spending quality time with the people who mattered the most to her and hoped her fans did the same for the holiday season.

The television personality showed her appreciation for the "love and support of my family and loved ones." Valerie urged her followers to appreciate all the special moments shared with their loved ones while enjoying the warmth and joy they brought into their lives.

The star concluded by wishing her fans a healthy and happy New Year. On her Instagram Story, the mother of one also uploaded a short clip where she wished a Merry Christmas to her cats while patting them on the head as she sat on the stairs of her home.

Thanksgiving was celebrated in Milan with Wolfgang Van Halen, her son, his fiancée, Andraia Allsop, and other close family members. The star's brother, Patrick Bertinelli, also went along for the trip, where his sister shared a video of the family gathered for a meal in the "Italian way."

The posts came as she celebrated her first holiday season since divorcing Tom Vitale. The former couple was married for ten years until their divorce was settled in November 2022, with Valerie calling the day the "second best day" of her life.

How Did Valerie's Divorce Conclude?

In November 2021, Valerie and Vitale legally separated before she filed for divorce in May 2022. By September 2022, the star was already ridding herself of items that reminded and bonded her to her ex-husband.

The actress shared an Instagram post and revealed she sold the shoes and the Tiffany & Co. rings she'd worn during their wedding day in January 2011. The items were sold on The RealReal, a luxury eCommerce marketplace.

The shoes she sold were a pair of brown Jimmy Choo heels with diamond studs. Court documents revealed that the "Hot in Cleveland" star had to pay Vitale a final and complete settlement of $2.2 million.

Neither would receive spousal support as per their prenuptial agreement. Valerie celebrated divorcing her ex-husband by sharing a video from the airport where she said her lawyer informed her the papers were signed and ready to be filed.

Although this was the television personality's second divorce, the first was with her son's late father; she still had someone who remained close to her no matter what - Wolfgang. The pair's relationship was quite inspirational.

Valerie's Tight Bond with Her Son

After Wolfgang lost his father, Eddie Van Halen, he became even close to his mother. However, in 2020, the "Valerie's Home Cooking" star confessed that she was learning to give him more space, stating:

"The older he gets, the more I know how to stay out of his business."

Valerie explained how she tried not to pry too much and trust that he knew what he was sure about what he was doing. The television show host also learned to call and say "Hi," or to hear his voice.

The duo also spent more time on FaceTime, and she loved it. The mother and son remained close throughout the years, and Valerie had found a way to balance staying out of her son's business while remaining connected.

The star even recalled how she hated putting Wolgang down when he was a child because he was always her whole world. However, she knew he had his own life now but still asked him things, like when he was releasing his next album, without annoying him!

At the beginning of 2020, the actress admitted to "Today with Hoda & Jenna" that she wanted to look at herself with "pure love" the way her son looked at her. Valerie also wished to live a life where she wasn't focused on the self-criticism she experienced because of her looks.
