This Iconic Hollywood Couple's Red Carpet Body Language Has Fans Buzzing — Photos from Childhood to Now
They've spent years guarding their privacy, but a single red carpet photo from Madrid has fans convinced something's missing.
The Hollywood power couple stepped out together on Monday, June 15, 2026, for the first time since December 2021, drawing immediate attention for their coordinated black outfits at a photocall in the Spanish capital.
But it didn't take long for eagle-eyed fans to notice something else entirely, something on his left hand that wasn't there.

A Star Was Born on a London Dance Floor
How does a kid who once struggled to even move his feet end up headlining one of the biggest franchises in movie history? For one English actor, it started with his mother, Nikki Holland, playing a Janet Jackson song when he was a baby.
In an Interview conversation with his then-future "Spider-Man" co-star, he admitted he had no clear plan for himself growing up. "I didn't really know what I wanted to be. My mom thought I could dance because I used to dance to this Janet Jackson song she'd play when I was a baby," the eldest of four brothers admitted.

The actor credited his mother for building his path toward acting. Here they are posing with a snake a on photo uploaded on September 3, 2017. | Source: Instagram/tomholland2013
Still, she signed him up for Saturday dance classes, and that's where everything changed. A scout spotted him at a performance and suggested he audition for the title role in "Billy Elliot the Musical." It wasn't an instant fit.
"When I first started auditioning, I was too small, and I couldn't dance," he said, adding that as a rugby player in an all-boys school, acting wasn't seen as something cool.

Although it took work, it was clear that he was meant for acrobatics from an early age. In this photo, he posed as a child in a pool in a throwback image uploaded on July 11, 2017. | Source: Instagram/tomholland2013
But he trained for two years in ballet, tap, and acrobatics before finally landing the part in 2008, according to a CNET feature about his rise, in which he also spoke about wanting to direct and produce movies later on.
The effort paid off because "Billy Elliot" was the role that shaped nearly everything that came after, including the breakout film, "The Impossible," alongside Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor, which pulled him out of school after only six weeks back.

One of his first major roles came in the survival drama film "The Impossible" alongside Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor. In this photo, he worked with Ben Perkins in a throwback image uploaded on June 14, 2016. | Source: Instagram/tomholland2013
His parents, he's said, gave him every reason to continue chasing his creative side. "I come from very creative parents," he explained, crediting his father Dominic Holland's decades in comedy and his mother's work as a photographer for the path he ended up on.
A separate Guardian profile traced his earliest training back to hip hop classes at a dance school in Wimbledon, where his natural rhythm first caught the attention of instructors before a Royal Ballet scout ever saw him perform.

They grew up surrounded by a close and supportive family. In this photo, he posed with his sleeping grandfather in a throwback image uploaded on November 30, 2014. | Source: Instagram/tomholland2013
Ultimately, the role that changed his life, "Spider-Man" in the MCU, arrived after a five-month process involving eight auditions, five self-tapes, and screen tests opposite two major stars, Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans. The actor was just 18 at the time.

He grew up as the eldest of four brothers who shared a remarkably close bond during their childhood. In this photo, some of them posed in their Halloween costumes in a throwback image uploaded on April 11, 2017. | Source: Instagram/tomholland2013
And he found out he'd landed the part the same way the rest of the world did, through an Instagram announcement, before a phone call ever came.
Despite his fame and money, the "Spider-Man" actor has dealt with several issues, which he has opened up about in a few interviews.

Through dedication and hard work, he constantly refined his acrobatics and dancing skills from an early age. In this photo, he performed a handstand on the street on June 16, 2012. | Source: Getty Images
In a conversation with IGN, he discussed living with ADHD and dyslexia, explaining that a blank canvas in terms of character development can feel intimidating but that creative constraints actually help him think.
He also spoke candidly about family and mental health on the Jay Shetty podcast, crediting his father's resilience as a comedian for shaping how he handles criticism and setbacks in his own career.

It was only a matter of time before Hollywood came calling for the rising star. In this photo, he posed at home with his dog on June 25, 2015. | Source: Instagram/tomholland2013
"Seeing the way in which my dad's job affects him, or my dad's job affects my mom, is something we've all sort of come to terms with. And he's amazing at it," he explained.
"I think a large part of my feeling towards [roles that critics/fans don't like] has come from my dad being able to do a gig, the gig not going well, him brushing it off his shoulder, and moving right onto the next one."

He took inspiration from his father on how to handle criticism gracefully as his career progressed. In this photo, he and his brothers posed at a golf course on May 5, 2024. | Source: Instagram/dommoholland
From a Shy Kid in Oakland to a Breakout Disney Star
An ocean away, another future star was just as unlikely a fit for the spotlight. Raised in Oakland, California, she was so shy as a small child that her parents attended seminars meant to help parents of children just like her.

Across the pond, another young person would soon become a star. In this photo, she posed while playing on a carousel in a throwback image uploaded on September 1, 2025. | Source: Instagram/zendaya
A Vogue profile recounted her mother's memory of those early years, "She would sit in the circle with the other kids and be totally silent." In fact, the actress was held back and repeated kindergarten because of it.

Although she was shy during her early childhood, she soon developed a vibrant and expressive personality. In this photo, she posed in a bed in a throwback image uploaded on September 2, 2024. | Source: Instagram/zendaya

She was an adorable child, but no one could have predicted how she would become a multi-talented singer, dancer, actress, and model. In this photo, she posed in a cowboy costume in a throwback image uploaded on September 2, 2020. | Source: Instagram/zendaya
Yet she gravitated toward performing anyway, joining a local dance group and going on auditions around the Bay Area. At 13, a Los Angeles manager discovered her, and within six months Disney had offered her a series that would launch her career.

The vibrant personality she developed as she grew up has remained reserved for those closest to her. In this photo, she posed at a pool while making a silly face in a throwback image uploaded on September 2, 2022. | Source: Instagram/zendaya
A Us Weekly feature noted that both of her parents, Kazembe Ajamu Coleman and Claire Stoermer, were teachers, which meant school was never something she could take lightly growing up, although she did fail some tests.

Additionally, her father once dreamed of her playing professional basketball before she found her calling.

Her parents both worked as teachers, which inspired her early belief that she would follow in their professional footsteps. In this photo, she posed with her father, Kazembe Ajamu Coleman, in a throwback image uploaded on March 29, 2021. | Source: Instagram/zendaya

Her mother taught at an underfunded school in Oakland, and watching that work left a mark. "If I wasn't in entertainment, I'd be a teacher in a heartbeat, guaranteed," she told Teen Vogue of the alternate path she imagined for herself.

Fortunately for her fans, she has shared many cherished memories online. In this photo, she posed as a child while eating messily and smiling in a throwback image uploaded on September 2, 2021. | Source: Instagram/zendaya

Fame arrived early, but so did pressure. Looking back as an adult in a Vogue interview, she described feeling like she had no real choice in the life she ended up living.

Sadly, the pressure became a lot for a child. In this photo, she posed on a couch while reading a children's book in a throwback image uploaded on September 2, 2019. | Source: Instagram/zendaya
"I felt like I was thrust into a very adult position. I was becoming the breadwinner of my family very early," she reflected, adding that a lot of role reversal happened within her household as she grew into that responsibility.

Some elements of her childhood indicated that she possessed the raw talent to become a global star. In this photo, she posed with a cowboy hat in a living room for a throwback image uploaded on March 6, 2017. | Source: Instagram/zendaya
That pressure to be everything to everyone followed her well into adulthood, something she has said she's only recently begun unpacking now that the spotlight has dimmed just slightly.

One of her main draws was the authentic emotion she displayed through her facial expressions. In this photo, she posed while frowning with real feeling for a throwback image uploaded on December 12, 2014. | Source: Instagram/zendaya
How Two Marvel Costars Became Hollywood's Most Private Couple
By now, you've likely guessed who these two are. Tom Holland and Zendaya, who met filming "Spider-Man: Homecoming," built a friendship on set long before anyone outside their circle knew it had turned into something more.
That changed in the summer of 2021, when paparazzi photos surfaced of the pair kissing in a car in Los Angeles. The moment was instantly dissected across entertainment outlets and fan accounts, with one viral video titled simply "tom holland and zendaya flirting for 8 minutes straight" racking up 1.5 million views, as detailed in a GQ cover story.

Tom Holland and Zendaya maintained a close friendship for many years before romance rumors surfaced. In this photo, they posed backstage during a photoshoot for a post celebrating her birthday on September 1, 2017. | Source: Instagram/tomholland2013
Tom addressed the loss of privacy carefully in that same conversation. "One of the downsides of our fame is that privacy isn't really in our control anymore, and a moment that you think is between two people that love each other very much is now a moment that is shared with the entire world," he said.
What's more, he made clear the story wasn't his to tell alone. "This isn't my story. It's our story. And we'll talk about what it is when we're ready to talk about it together," he said.

They never explicitly told the world they were together. In this photo, Zendaya and Tom Holland posed backstage while filming "Spider-Man: No Way Home" on September 1, 2021. | Source: Instagram/tomholland2013
Zendaya echoed that frustration when asked about the leaked footage. "It was quite strange and weird and confusing and invasive," she said, adding that protecting whatever privacy she could became its own kind of priority.
By 2023, she had settled into a more guarded but accepting stance on public scrutiny in an interview with Elle. "Parts of my life, I accept, are going to be public. I can't not be a person and live my life and love the person I love," she said, while maintaining she still controlled what she chose to share.

Once their relationship became public, they chose to remain private rather than hide their bond from the world. In this photo, they are hugging in a post celebrating his birthday on June 1, 2022. | Source: Instagram/zendaya
Therefore, it makes sense that the biggest reveal about their relationship didn't come from either of them directly. It came from celebrity stylist Law Roach, who seemed to almost brag on a red carpet that the couple had already gotten married, a moment uploaded on Instagram.
"The wedding's already happened. You missed it," he told Access Hollywood in March 2026.

Their First Red Carpet Appearance in Years Has Fans Talking
On Monday, the couple stepped out together for the "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" photocall at the Four Seasons Hotel in Madrid, marking their first joint red carpet appearance since the "Spider-Man: No Way Home" premiere back in December 2021.

The couple had not been seen together at a public outing since 2021. At this event, Tom Holland and Zendaya posed at the photocall for "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" at the Courtyard of the Four Seasons Hotel on June 15, 2026, in Madrid, Spain. | Source: Getty Images

Zendaya wore a black strapless dress with a fringed skirt by Christian Cowan, paired with black pumps, a Rolex watch, and Stéfére jewelry, her pixie cut slicked back behind her ears. Meanwhile, Tom wore a custom Jacquemus look featuring a black jacket over a red button-down shirt and a black tie with black trousers and shoes.

The matching black palette didn't go unnoticed, but it wasn't the outfits that had people talking. It was something missing from Holland's left hand.
On Instagram, fans immediately zeroed in on the absence of a wedding ring. "Anyone notice he doesn't wear a wedding ring anyone know why ?" one person asked. Another comment read, "She looks very very uncomfortable. Why ? The Drama was so good for her with Robert Pattinson [sic]."

The questions multiplied across platforms. On Facebook, one person pointed out, "He's not wearing a wedding band? Aren't they married?" Another wrote, "He's not wearing a ring..." In contrast, Zendaya was wearing a ring.

Body language became the next target of scrutiny, as videos showed the couple embracing for some paparazzi photos. And although they smiled at each other sometimes, they appeared somewhat distracted as well.
One observer claimed, "He's not looking at her ever..... body language always speaks truth!" A netizen added, "I don't see this sparkle in their eyes anymore."
But not every reaction leaned skeptical. Plenty of fans saw warmth in the same photos. One Instagrammer gushed, "Aww they look so happy." And a Facebooker added, "The way they look at each other ❤️❤️."

But some netizens didn't care about rings; they just focused on how happy Tom Holland and Zendaya looked together at their first event for the new film. | Source: Getty Images
Whether the missing ring means anything at all or simply reflects two people who've never needed jewelry to prove what they have, the photos from Madrid have given fans plenty to pick apart, and plenty of reasons to look closer at a couple who've spent years trying to keep at least some of their story to themselves.
