Kahekili Kali Was Born Outdoors during a Thunderstorm – Meet Evangeline Lilly's Son

Kahekili Kali is Evangeline Lilly's son, born after 30 hours of labor amidst a power outage. Lilly previously shared her birthing experience, claiming that she was in a meditative state while pushing for eight hours.

Kahekili Kali was only a baby when the press started taking an interest in his life -- from the day he was born into his growing years -- all thanks to his famous mother, Evangeline Lilly.

Shortly after his birth, Kahekili was spotted hitting the beach with his parents, Lilly, and her boyfriend, Norman Kali. The family seemed to enjoy their stroll as they all were photographed with big grins.

Only three months after giving birth, the "Lost" star was visibly getting back into shape, looking slimmer in dark jeans and a jacket. She also returned to filming, showing just how hard-working she was.

Kahekili's Name Has a Very Beautiful Meaning

Kahekili's parents did not know his gender until the moment he was born in 2011, making his birth all the more exciting. During an interview on "Conan," Lilly shared the hilarious moment when she and Norman learned they had a son. She said:

"I was holding my beautiful baby in my arms, looking at the beautiful perfect face, just thinking, 'It's perfect.' And I heard my partner, Norman, say, 'Holy cow! Look at the size of the balls on that kid.'"

Lilly and Norman decided to name their son Kahekili, a unique name that means 'thunder.' Kahekili's moniker also had an interesting story, having been born at home during a thunderstorm. However, the public only knew his name after some time, as Kahekili's parents kept details about his birth private.

According to his mother, she endured 30 hours of labor and eight hours of pushing until Kahekili came. At that time, she was outdoors as there was a power outage. Fortunately, she was in a meditative state and did not feel as much pain.

Days after his birth, Kahekili was spotted wrapped in a white baby blanket in his mother's arms. Lilly's partner was also with them, shopping at a local supermarket in Oahu, Hawaii.

Kahekili Is Aware of His Mother's Work

By the time he was seven, Kahekili was already aware of his mom's celebrity status. During an interview on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," the actress revealed that her son did not care much about her Marvel superhero role, the Wasp/Hope van Dyne.

The Canadian star is not Kahekili's only parent in the entertainment industry. His father, Norman, is also in show business, working behind the scenes.

However, it made Lilly proud when her son pretended to be her female superhero character while visiting the set one day. She narrated what happened while he was in Hope and Hank's lab:

"He was in awe of all the buttons and switches and gadgets. He asked if he could touch them [...]. [He] started playing and then turned around to my partner and said, 'Look at me, Dad! I'm the Wasp!' That was a moment."

The doting mom takes much pride in playing the first female superhero that was included in a Marvel film franchise's title. To see her son pretending to be her character made her embrace the role much more.

Her curious son soon took an interest in the Marvel cinematic universe and asked Lilly who her favorite Avenger was, to which she replied, Antman. Hilariously, Kahekili referred to him as her sidekick. Antman is famously played by Paul Rudd, who is also a father to a young girl, Darby Rudd.

Although Kahekili fully accepts his mother's job, he once did not like it. When Kahekili was five months old, he had a traumatic experience while on the set of "The Hobbit," where his mom played an elf. As the baby was about to nurse from Lilly, he began to scream and cry, unable to recognize his mom in full costume.

Kahekili's Parents Met on the Set of a TV Show

The Canadian star is not Kahekili's only parent in the entertainment industry. His father, Norman, is also in show business, working behind the scenes. It was through his job as a production assistant on "Lost" that he met Lilly.

After having Kahekili, Lilly and Norman welcomed another child into their family. In 2021, Kahekili's mom revealed that her partner stays home to care for their children while she works.

Although they're already like a husband-and-wife duo, wedding bells have yet to ring for the happy couple. Lilly never dreamed of walking down the aisle because she believes love is enough to sustain a relationship.

Kahekili Became an Older Brother

Like her pregnancy with Kahekili, Lilly and her partner waited for their child's birth to know the gender. However, there has yet to be a confirmation if they had another son or a daughter.

Lilly isn't the only Hollywood actress in a long-time committed relationship with no plans to walk down the aisle. Veteran actress Goldie Hawn also claimed that marriage was not in her future with Kurt Russell, her partner of nearly four decades.

However, Russell did buy a gorgeous ring for Hawn, which she wears on her wedding finger to celebrate their love. The actor believes that a marriage certificate won't bring their relationship anything they don't already have.
