"Mary Poppins" and "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" star Dick Van Dyke is the father of four children who he is very proud of. His daughter Carrie Beth Van Dyke is an actress who chose a life away from the cameras.

In 1962, Dick welcomed his third child and first daughter, Carrie Beth Van Dyke, who was followed by a younger sister, Stacy Van Dyke. Carrie also has a history in acting which she did not follow through into her adult years.

The "Mary Poppins" star managed to provide Carrie and her three siblings with a luxurious life in his prime days in Hollywood. Still, their fairytale reality was vandalized by the untimely loss of lives and an unsought history of alcohol and antidepressant addiction.

Carrie Beth Van Dyke Was 9 When She Tried Acting but Deemed It's Not for Her

Carrie has also made her television debut on one of her father's shows, like her older brothers. Her debut was slightly different as she appeared years later in two episodes of "The New Dick Van Dyke Show" in 1971, unlike her older brothers who appeared in the first edition, "The Dick Van Dyke Show."

She did not further her career in film after appearing on the show as a girl scout. Her life has been fairly private and limited since, and with little media coverage following her 1971 debut, there has been no information about her profession.

Barry, however, has carried the baton of his father's stellar career, appearing in two of his father's shows: starring in "The Dick Van Dyke Show" and as a lead in "Diagnosis: Murder." His stacked résumé also includes appearances in "Magnum, P.I.," created by the stepfather of actor Sean Murray, and "Murder 101."

Carrie Beth Van Dyke Has No Fondness in Being Seen in Public

Carrie was never attracted to the glitz and glamor of Hollywood, a trait that she possibly inherited from her mother, Margie. When Dick was a younger actor, his wife, who accompanied him to Hollywood events, was given no acknowledgment from the showbiz journalists attempting to interview her husband.

Carrie's disappearance from acting has blurred the details of her adult life. The only traceable fact about her life after a brief pursuance of a film career that reportedly garnered $100,000 is her marriage with Kevin Nally in 1983.

Carrie and her husband went on to welcome two children. Her life has been extremely private and void of public appearances lately, making it difficult to establish whether she is still married to the father of her children.

Carrie Beth Van Dyke Painfully Lost Her Mother to Cancer

Dick revealed that Carrie's mother, Margie, had lost her life in 2008. The movie star's ex-wife had pancreatic cancer and eventually succumbed to the disease. Carrie's father stated that Margie's death made him feel like he had lost a part of his life, even though they were already divorced.

This was not the first loss that Carrie's family suffered as her mother unfortunately miscarried twins before going on to welcome four children, and Dick credits Margie for selflessly raising them. His second wife, Michelle, was diagnosed with lung cancer a year after Margie's death.

Dick revealed that his hardest bit of acting was when he pretended to be unaware of Michelle's impending death when she asked if her time was coming to an end. However, loss aside, their family extended tenfold, with Carrie's father becoming a grandfather of seven and great-grandfather to many more.

Dick Van Dyke is very proud of Carrie and her siblings and is living happily in his third marriage with his makeup artist wife, Arlene Silver, who is 46 years his junior. He expressed this sentiment by saying, "They all turned out great, I'm happy to say. Not a horse thief in the bunch."

Despite Carrie's limited pursuit of a career in the art her father loves, he does not love her any less than the siblings, who take it seriously. Her father is now living a healthier life after overcoming a 25-year addiction to alcohol.
